Chen Guibiao, a skilled duck farmer who became wealthy, from Wengjiang Village, Jichang Shui Ethnic Township

In Yabu Shui Ethnic Village, Wengjiang Village, Jichang Shui Ethnic Township, Duyun City, a provincial-level first-class poverty-stricken township, there is an honest, simple, eager-to-learn and hardworking ordinary young Communist Party member. After a period of tempering, through his own wisdom and painstaking efforts, he meticulously started a duck farming business and finally set himself on the road out of poverty toward prosperity. He is Communist Party member and skilled duck farmer Chen Guibiao.

When we walked into Yabu Village, the joyful quacking of "ga, ga, ga" from the duck flocks welcomed the guests' arrival. At first glance, under the eaves of a beautiful house, in a pond of nearly half a mu, flocks of ducks were floating and swimming in the water, which was exciting. This is Chen Guibiao's home. As soon as we reached the doorway, Chen Guibiao, a simple rural couple, greeted us warmly with smiling faces.

Chen Guibiao is now 32 years old, of Buyi ethnicity, with a junior high school education, and a member of the Communist Party of China. He was born into a poor family, and life was quite difficult, but his parents still saved on food and expenses to put him through junior high school. After graduation, the struggling family was very poor and could hardly continue to support his schooling, so he followed his parents in farming. The traditional primitive agricultural planting lifestyle of his ancestors touched him. To escape poverty and prosper, in this remote and impoverished environment and family, with no skills and no funds, getting rich was easier said than done. So he made up his mind to go out to work and learn experience while accumulating funds to return home and start a business.

In his early twenties, hot-blooded and eager to compete, he went out with four or five young people from the village to work and earn money. He said: going out to work is not a simple matter; you have to endure hardship and swallow your pride, otherwise you will not gain the boss's trust or earn money. After four years of a working life wandering north and south, his will was tempered and his horizons broadened. After returning home, he married a reasonable and understanding wife. His career received his wife's full support, and the family was very harmonious.

From 2002 to 2004, while serving as a clerk in Xinhua Village, he raised pigs. Due to inadequate technology and the influence of the market economy, pig raising suffered setbacks, but he and his wife did not become discouraged. Instead, they thought carefully, analyzed market information, and redrew their business plan. In early 2005, after participating in the "Sunshine Project" organized by the township government and attending a livestock breeding skills training class at the prefecture Party school, he went out to work again. At the chicken farm of the Libo Animal Husbandry Bureau, he worked while learning. Diligent, careful, shrewd and capable, he won the boss's liking, and the boss taught him practical techniques in the breeding process. Besides humbly asking the master for advice, he also bought some books on practical breeding techniques from bookstores to study on his own, and tested them in practice. He mastered many feed formulas and breeding experiences related to breeding, creating relatively good benefits for the boss.

Before the Mid-Autumn Festival in 2006, disregarding the boss's sincere attempts to keep him, he gave up relatively good treatment and returned home to start a business. After returning home, combining the village's favorable conditions such as geography and climate, water sources, and sales, he transformed nearly half a mu of contracted land beside his house through simple measures such as deep digging, raising embankments, and bamboo fencing, and set up a family breeding farm. In December 2006, he invested 1200 yuan to buy 200 Beijing ducklings for an experiment. Thanks to effective prevention and meticulous management, 199 survived. By the time they were sold at the 2007 Spring Festival, each weighed 2 kg. After deducting costs and calculating at 6.5 yuan/jin, the net profit was 7.50 yuan per duck, and the first batch brought a net income of 1500 yuan. Having tasted the first sweetness of success, he then purchased 170 local water ducks to raise. Because they grew more slowly and took longer to raise, he earned 5 yuan per duck, totaling 850 yuan. After careful analysis, he changed the breed. In late May, he bought 300 shelducks to raise. With proper management, 275 survived, and they could be sold in only about 45 days, shortening the raising time. Because market pork prices rose, ducks sold well. Calculated at 7 yuan/jin, he made a net profit of about 10 yuan per duck, with income reaching 2750 yuan. This year, three duck sales earned a total of 5100 yuan. Speaking of this, he smiled happily.

He said, "I have today, having escaped poverty and gradually embarked on the path to prosperity through duck farming. I am very grateful to the Party branch for earnestly implementing the Party's good policies in rural areas. I have now bought a motorized tricycle and plan to buy another 500 shelducks to expand raising. I want to play the vanguard and exemplary role of a Party member, repay the organization, do a good job of helping and guiding, pass on the techniques to farming households who want to get rich by raising ducks, lead them to raise and sell together, establish a duck farming association, set up a village-level breeding farm, and create income and prosperity together with the masses."
