Farmer Sun Hongru of Jiujian Village: The "Leading Goose" in Getting Rich by Raising Raccoon Dogs

Sun Hongru, a farmer from Bolagen Tun in Jiujian Village, Taiyangsheng Town, Datong District, took an accidental opportunity that set him on the path to wealth through raccoon dog farming, making him the "leading goose" in his small village's drive to prosperity.

In 2004, after Sun Hongru came across information about raccoon dog farming in a book, he felt it was an opportunity to make money. He bought more than 60 raccoon dogs at once to raise, and earned a net profit of 15,000 yuan in one year.

Having found the way to wealth, Sun Hongru threw himself into the work with abandon. To save costs, starting in 2006 Sun Hongru set aside breeding raccoon dogs and taught himself breeding techniques. His hard work paid off: the breeding techniques Sun Hongru figured out succeeded, and 5 groups of raccoon dogs produced more than 90 pups, bringing an annual net income of 25,000 yuan. Driven by Sun Hongru, the whole village's raccoon dog population reached more than 4,000, adding 1.2 million yuan in income to the small village in a single year.
