Large-size river crab breeding technology promotion in the Yellow River Delta passes acceptance

On October 15, the Shandong Provincial Department of Ocean and Fisheries organized relevant experts to conduct an on-site acceptance of the provincial agricultural technology promotion project "Promotion of Key Technologies for Large-Size River Crab Breeding in the Yellow River Delta," undertaken by the Provincial Institute of Freshwater Fisheries.

The project was carried out in 3 counties and districts, namely Kenli County, Dongying District and Lijin County, with an implementation period of one year, promoting a breeding area of 144,160 mu, including 36,160 mu of pond breeding area and 108,000 mu of plain-type reservoir breeding area, all exceeding the project plan targets. At the same time, the project also conducted trials and promotion of large-size commercial crab breeding in 43,000 mu of reed wetlands. The bred river crabs had normal body shape, bright body color, rapid movement and no attachments. Some of the breeding units had already passed the pollution-free aquatic product origin certification and product certification, as well as organic food certification. In addition, in conjunction with the project implementation, the "Technical Specifications for Yellow River Estuary Hairy Crab Breeding" was formulated, which was issued by the Shandong Provincial Bureau of Quality and Technical Supervision on February 17, 2009, and came into effect on March 1, 2009, filling the gap in our province's hairy crab production technical regulations.

The implementation of this project changed some traditional breeding concepts of farmers. The high-quality large-size river crabs produced enhanced the competitiveness and influence of Yellow River Estuary hairy crab products, improved the breeding size and technical level, and increased fishermen's breeding income.
