Mayang: Growing off-season cucumbers achieves win-win for company and farmers

Recently, the vegetable fields beside National Highway 209 in Lancun Village, Lancun Township, have been bustling with activity. More than 50 farmers were picking cucumbers while loading them onto trucks. This is the busy harvest and sales scene at the 180-mu "Fuzhou" cucumber production base of Chongqing Xingyou Vegetable and Fruit Co., Ltd.

It is understood that farmers in Lancun Village lease their own farmland to Chongqing Xingyou Vegetable and Fruit Co., Ltd. for 700 yuan per mu per year to grow cucumbers, and then return to their own farmland to work for 40 yuan per day. Not only can they earn more income than in previous years, but they can also learn cultivation techniques, bringing real benefits to the farmers. As for the cucumbers planted by Chongqing Xingyou Vegetable and Fruit Co., Ltd., because of off-season large-scale cultivation, not only are sales good but the price is also decent. The cucumbers are sold to large and medium-sized cities such as Chongqing and Chengdu. The yield per mu is more than 14,000 jin, and the income per mu is nearly 7,000 yuan. After deducting various costs, the net profit per mu is about 3,000 yuan.

Over the past two years, Lancun Township has leveraged its unique location and environmental advantages to vigorously develop off-season vegetables. Through investment promotion, it has pursued intensive land management and developed large-scale agriculture. This has not only allowed farmers' land to be used more effectively, eased the employment pressure on migrant workers, and increased farmers' income, but also brought considerable economic benefits to agricultural companies, achieving a win-win for both the company and the farmers.
