The province's largest export broad bean planting base is established in Guide County

This year, the broad beans planted in Guide County had a bumper harvest. Doula, a villager from Hexi Town, Guide County, was so happy he could not stop grinning: "I personally planted one mu, and harvested 508 kg (of broad beans). The returns are very good."

In order to comprehensively improve the operational benefits of agriculture and animal husbandry, in the autumn of 2007, the Hexi Town government made broad bean planting a trial project for industrial structure adjustment. They signed an order purchase agreement for broad beans with Yuanxing Company and actively organized village cadres and growers to visit and learn from specialized broad bean villages in the Xining area, conducting on-site investigations to understand the economic benefits, sales prospects, and other aspects of broad bean planting. To ensure the quality of export broad beans, the company, through a "pass on, help, and guide" approach, sent technicians to teach broad bean cultivation techniques to growers hand by hand. It is understood that this year, the order broad beans planted in Hexi Town had an average yield of 350 kg per mu, with the highest yield per mu reaching more than 500 kg. This year the company purchased broad beans at a price of 2.7 yuan per kg, and farmers earned more than 500 yuan more per mu than by planting other crops. Nanjian Duojie, Party secretary of Hexi Town, told reporters: "Using the local water and fertilizer conditions, light and heat conditions, and other green and environmentally friendly advantages, we planted 4,300 mu, generating more than 2 million yuan in additional income compared with last year."

In recent years, the broad bean industry has developed rapidly in Guide County. The Guide County government has gradually guided this industry into becoming Qinghai's base for developing broad bean exports. This year, Qinghai Yuanxing Industry and Trade Co., Ltd. signed a broad bean planting contract with Guide County for 6,000 mu, and next year plans to expand it to 10,000 mu. Establishing a high-quality broad bean planting base has opened up a new channel for increasing farmers' incomes.
