Helan tomato-growing champion Xue Hanzhong has an annual output value of 50,000 yuan

"The two tomato greenhouses the Xue family planted this year each yielded more than 50,000 jin, and total income can reach 100,000 yuan!" Yesterday, the reporter came to Xinping Village, Xigang Town, Helan County, and interviewed the village's tomato-growing champion, Xue Hanzhong.

Xue Hanzhong, 45, is originally from Hanzhong, Shaanxi. Last year, he and his wife settled in Xinping Village, Xigang Town, and in June of the same year they built two greenhouses and planted tomatoes of the Adelisi variety. According to Xue Hanzhong, he and his wife spent every day in the greenhouses tending them. After the greenhouses were built, he invested 8,000 yuan in total to add farmyard manure such as cow dung and pig manure to the tomatoes. Last November, the tomatoes in his two greenhouses began bearing fruit one after another, and after picking, all were shipped to Wuhan, Guangzhou and other places, selling for about 2 yuan per kg.

It is understood that Xinping Village has only three tomato greenhouses with such high yields, two of which are Xue Hanzhong's. According to Wang Feng, head of the vegetable station of the Helan County Agricultural Technology Center, organic fertilizer has relatively complete nutrients, can loosen the soil, and improve the disease resistance of vegetables. Most villagers generally apply only about 1,000 yuan worth of farmyard manure, with each greenhouse yielding 20,000 to 30,000 jin. Although Xue Hanzhong applied 8,000 yuan worth of farmyard manure, his yield and output value are 2-3 times those of other farmers.
