Poultry Farming Expert Wang Yanping in Xiqing, Tianjin

In Yihe Village, Xiyingmen Street, Xiqing District, Tianjin, there is a poultry farming expert named Wang Yanping. Her Yihe Shuangsheng Farm currently has more than 50,000 breeder chickens and produces over 400 tons of eggs annually. She is a widely known woman expert in becoming wealthy, and received the national "Double Study and Double Compare" Woman Expert honor twice, in 1999 and 2007.

Speaking of Wang Yanping's path to wealth, one must go back to 1986. "Back then the scale was small, and every penny for buying chicks was borrowed from relatives and friends; we had no site, so we rented a few horse stables in the village and started family chicken farming," Wang Yanping recalled. In order to live a better life, Wang Yanping and her husband started from nothing, working from dawn to dusk to build the chicken coops and get the chickens in, but how to raise them became a problem. "Learn, of course." Full of confidence, Wang Yanping buried herself in books, starting with knowledge of scientific feeding and epidemic prevention techniques; studying took up all her rest time. Learning while doing, she and her husband made more than 10,000 yuan that year from raising just over 1,000 chickens. At that time, this was no small sum, and from then on, Wang Yanping was set on this path to wealth.

Small-scale farming was not Wang Yanping's ultimate dream. In order to raise chickens better, she added equipment, increased varieties, and expanded the scale of farming. She invested more than 200,000 yuan to introduce chick incubators and feed processing units, achieving a one-stop self-breeding and self-raising system from breeder chickens to hatching, brooding, feed processing, growing out, and egg production. She specifically purchased raw grain from other places, crushed and proportioned it herself, and achieved scientific feed formulation, increasing the chicken flock's survival rate by 8% and the egg production rate by 3%. Over several years, through self-study, attending training classes, and pairing up with others, she learned poultry farming techniques and mastered the key points of flock management, feed formulation, and chicken disease diagnosis and treatment. She also formulated corresponding disease prevention measures and epidemic prevention procedures according to different seasons and different flocks, thereby maintaining a relatively high survival rate and egg production rate in her flocks, and recovering more than 100,000 yuan in economic losses each year by reducing fowl plague. Wang Yanping told the reporter: "Now we specialize in raising breeder chickens here, selling breeding eggs and commercial eggs, with products sold to North China and Northeast China. We now have two farms: one is the one being interviewed now (located in Yihe Village), with more than 50,000 breeder chickens in stock; the other is in Yangfengang Township, Bazhou City, Hebei, covering 115 mu, with more than 5,000 sq m of chicken coops and more than 70,000 breeder chickens in stock." Now, the number of employees at her farm has grown from 2 or 3 people in the past to more than 40.

"Peers are not enemies." Having become wealthy, Wang Yanping never forgets to help others. In order to help more people master poultry farming techniques, she serves as the technical instructor for the farm's employees, personally demonstrating and guiding through regular training and other forms, and conducting in-depth training for employees in poultry farming techniques and skills. In addition to pairing up with some farmers, she also takes in university students from agricultural colleges each year for internships, promoting technological progress.

When the reporter asked whether the financial crisis had affected her business, Wang Yanping said: "For now, it has had a relatively large impact on commercial eggs, but breeding eggs have not been much affected because of large output and many domestic sales channels." Indeed, during the interview, Wang Yanping kept receiving order calls. At present, her farm sells an average of 20,000-30,000 breeding eggs and more than 1,000 kg of commercial eggs per day.
