Liu Yongping: The Chicken Farming King on the Mountain Ridge

In Group 3 of Yongxing Village, Yuntai Town, Pingchang County, there is a small mountain ridge with green mountains, clear waters, singing birds and fragrant flowers, and on the ridge is built a wild animal breeding base. Row upon row of single-story houses with gray tile roofs, water pools and biogas pits form a charming scene, and the office, breeding farm, and incubation and brooding room are all complete ... Liu Yongping, the owner busy at the farm, said: "This place has a large area of natural mountain forest, and it is a purely natural green breeding base, with no noise and no pollution. It is very suitable for natural free-range breeding of wild animals. The wild animals raised this way are rich in nutrition and delicious, and are deeply favored by consumers."

Liu Yongping, now 32 years old, lives in Group 4 of Nanma Village, Yuntai Town. A few years ago he went out to work with his older brother. Last year the factory was affected by the international financial crisis, the enterprise stopped production, and Liu Yongping quit his job and returned home. Seeing the good ecological environment of his hometown and the attractive prospects of specialty breeding, Liu Yongping began to start his own business. "Transportation here is convenient, and the main road is less than 10 m away. I learned outside about breeding techniques for pheasants and hares, and in addition the local Party committee and government introduced a series of preferential policies for us in terms of mountain forest, land, water, electricity, roads and so on, which strengthened my confidence in starting a business."

At the end of 2008, Liu Yongping invested 700,000 yuan to lease 100 mu of land in Group 3 of Yongxing Village, Yuntai Town, build a 10-mu breeding farm and a 90-mu open-air pheasant breeding farm, construct water pools, biogas pits and an office, and founded the Yonghong Special Ecological Breeding Park, raising more than 4,000 birds in total, including royal chickens, green-shell laying hens, black phoenix chickens, white ducks and improved-breed hares introduced from Fujian Zhaobao Ecological Farm Co., Ltd., and at the same time added two incubators to breed chicks, basically achieving self-breeding and self-raising.

"More than 3,000 pheasants lay an average of more than 600 eggs per day. The current market price of pheasant eggs is 3 yuan each, so I can earn more than 1,800 yuan a day, and in a year I can make a net profit of more than 300,000 yuan. It takes about 120 days for each pheasant to grow from chick to finished chicken, and the cost is about 15-20 yuan. At the current market price it can sell for 60 yuan each, so each pheasant can earn 40 yuan, and in a year I can earn about 360,000 yuan. In a year I can sell more than 5,000 white ducks, and after subtracting costs I can earn about 150,000 yuan. I sell 300 breeding pheasants, and each breeding pheasant can sell for 80 yuan, so after subtracting costs I can net about 20,000 yuan. I sell more than 5,000 hares, and in a year I can net about 150,000 yuan. Altogether, I can earn 1 million yuan in a year." While disinfecting the pheasants, Liu Yongping told the reporter about his next entrepreneurial plan: "I plan to open a purely natural wild game life hall in Pingchang County town, specializing in a series of natural wild animal dishes. It can not only meet the daily needs of customers, but also link my production and sales and earn more money."
