Liang Weihao, a major farmer of crisp grass carp

Before 1995, Liang Weihao was engaged in aquatic product distribution in the Pearl River Delta, mainly purchasing crisp grass carp from various places for resale. After operating this way for some time, he found that the quality of the crisp grass carp he bought was uneven and difficult to meet customers' requirements. He thought, since he already had sales channels, could he also farm crisp grass carp with guaranteed quality for his customers?

This decision made Liang Weihao a major farmer of crisp grass carp who produces and sells his own fish. After more than 10 years of development, the crisp grass carp farming base he opened at Daxiwei, Antang Village, Dachong Town, now reaches 500 mu, making him a major farmer in the true sense. Moreover, because from the very beginning he farmed specifically to guarantee the quality of crisp grass carp, Liang Weihao pays considerable attention to quality, advocates healthy farming, and promotes a green brand. As a result, the survival rate in his fish ponds has reached over 99%.

According to Liang Weihao, ordinary crisp grass carp are farmed for about 10 to 12 months, while his crisp grass carp farming cycle is 8 months. Apart from being fed compound feed for a few months, they eat broad beans for at least 4 months. Because the time is short, his fish are naturally smaller, usually shipped at 5 to 6 kg, but at the same time, because the farming cycle is shortened, his 500 mu of fish ponds can be farmed in rotation, allowing supply at any time throughout the year and creating seamless supply to the market.

According to farming patterns, Liang Weihao also polycultures the four major Chinese carps in his ponds, and is exploring varieties such as crisp bighead carp and crisp crucian carp for innovative operation. Market surveys show that residents in the mainland, the Pearl River Delta, and Hong Kong, China and Macao, China have different views on the crispness of crisp grass carp: the mainland requires it to be as crisp as possible, while the Pearl River Delta and Hong Kong, China and Macao, China require only ordinary crispness. Shipping ordinarily crisp crisp grass carp to the mainland for sale would affect sales; shipping especially crisp crisp grass carp to the Hong Kong, China and Macao, China markets would not suit local tastes and would also lose the market. Therefore, farmers must formulate farming plans according to their own sales markets. At present, the market for crisp grass carp is mainly concentrated in the Pearl River Delta and the Hong Kong, China and Macao, China area, while Vietnam, Sichuan, Beijing, Hebei, Hubei and other places all have crisp grass carp sales.

Talking about farming benefits, Liang Weihao said the farm can absorb part of the local surplus labor, and I can also make a little money, so everyone benefits. He told the reporter that crisp grass carp yield more than 1,500 kg per mu per year, and the annual output from 500 mu reaches 750,000 kg. Calculated at a pond-side price of 22 yuan per kg, the profit is 4 yuan per kg. Based on this, the reporter did some calculations for him: as he shifted from being only a major distributor to operating both distribution and farming, his annual net profit increased by more than one million yuan.
