Li Jianghui, a specialty breeder of Indian peafowl

On June 12, the author admired Indian peafowl at the home of Li Jianghui in Shidengjiao Group, Wushi Village, Qili Town, Zixing City. He is also the first specialty breeder in the city to raise peafowl.

Recently, Li Jianghui signed a ten-year contract with Jiangxi Zhongnong Technology Co., Ltd. He initially introduced two groups of breeding peafowl, twelve birds in total, at 8,800 yuan per group. After some time, 20 peachicks and several dozen pheasants will be introduced successively to be raised together, developing a specialty breeding industry.

It is understood that at present there are only two named species of peafowl in the world: the Indian peafowl (also called the blue peafowl) and the Javan peafowl (also called the green peafowl). The Indian peafowl was called kongjue or kongniao in ancient times. It is one of the rare birds with relatively high ornamental value in the world. It originates from the India area, has a relatively large body, and the crest on top of its head often spreads out in a fan shape. The neck feathers of the male are sapphire blue with a rich metallic luster, and it is commonly known as the blue peafowl. Peafowl meat is tender and rich in more than 20 kinds of amino acids as well as vitamins and trace elements. Its fat content is only 1%, and its protein content reaches 23.2%, far higher than that of ordinary poultry, giving it the characteristics of high protein and low fat.
