The Farming Story of Broiler Farmer Zheng Changlin
Zheng Changlin, of Group 5, Zhongshan Village, Mutan Township, Gong County, Yibin, Sichuan, raises 900 broiler chickens; they are currently growing well, and his income by the end of the year can reach 40,000 yuan. Zheng Changlin began raising chickens in February 2008 after returning home from working in Jiangsu Province. Because he was far from the county seat and it was hard to buy books, he had always raised them the traditional way, and as a result, when he settled the accounts that year, he had made a loss. This year a rural family library was set up in a neighboring village, and he went there to read every few days, drawing from the books knowledge on feeding, prevention, and disinfection treatment for raising chickens. A month ago, he bought another 900 broiler chicks and raised them according to the knowledge in the books. At present, the chick survival rate has reached 99%, and his income by the end of the year is expected to reach 40,000 yuan.
