Lijin County, Shandong Has Built 4,000 Well-Off Granaries
(Agricultural Wealth Network)    Recently, in Dongsan Village, Mingji Township, Lijin County, Shandong, farmer Zhang Hongbin pointed to a well-off granary and said: "Using a well-off granary to store grain is clean, hygienic and practical." The county grain bureau's village-assistance team provided 103 farming households in Dongsan Village with well-off granaries free of charge, making grain storage easier for the people. It is understood that since last year, the county has promoted 4,000 well-off granaries, and compared with traditional grain storage methods, they can reduce grain loss by 200 tons per year.

The county has implemented a scientific grain storage project for farming households, advocating that farmers store their own rations and realize grain storage among the people. In the past, because grain storage conditions were crude and storage methods were relatively casual, insect damage, rat bites and mold were very common, and the annual grain storage loss rate reached 6%-8%. Scientific grain storage demonstration granaries for farming households can effectively solve this series of problems. The demonstration granary, also known as a well-off granary, compared with traditional rural grain storage methods, has the characteristics of simple installation, wide use, freedom from insect and rat damage, moisture proofing and heat insulation, long service life, and being economical and practical. It can ensure the safety of decentralized grain storage by individual households, and at the same time has advantages such as preserving quality and freshness, reducing losses, and being economical and attractive. It not only solves the previous problem of large losses from rat bites and insect damage in farmers' grain storage, but also makes household grain storage simple and convenient, saving time and effort. The promotion and use of well-off granaries has important practical significance for reducing farmers' grain storage losses and improving farmers' grain storage environment.
