Pepper Production Work Conference Successfully Held in Qijiang County

On July 1, Qijiang County held a pepper production work conference. More than 30 people attended the meeting, including Liu Chengwen, member of the County Party Committee Standing Committee; Wang Jie, deputy county magistrate; Huang Shifu, director of the County Agriculture Bureau; Jiang Mingjian, deputy director; the party committee secretaries and township heads of Guofu, Dongxi and Sanjiao towns; leaders in charge of agriculture from various towns and subdistricts; technical cadres from the County Agriculture Bureau; and heads of Meiledi Company and Zhengpangzi Company.

At 8 a.m., the participants set out from the county government square to visit the pepper demonstration plots in Yinpen Village, Guofu Town and Shangbang Village, Dongxi Town. Everyone fully affirmed the scale and management quality of the demonstration plots; the seedlings were growing very well, and fruit setting had already begun. Processing-type peppers were expected to enter the harvest period in late July. This year, the pepper demonstration area reached more than 50,000 mu, and a bumper harvest was in sight. At the visit site, Deputy County Magistrate Wang Jie pointed out that the top priority at present was to do three things well: first, pepper field management, to strive for the highest yield; second, pepper sales, to strive for the greatest benefits; third, plans for next year, to strive for the sustainable development of the pepper industry.

At 5 p.m., the pepper production work conference was held in the conference room on the second floor of the county government. Guofu Town, Dongxi Town and Sanjiao Town each gave experience-sharing presentations at the meeting. The meeting fully affirmed their work in building pepper demonstration plots, managing pepper fields, and actively seeking markets. Huang Shifu, director of the Agriculture Bureau, spoke at the meeting. He explained the path of strengthening management to increase production, seizing markets to increase income, supporting large growers to expand scale, and using demonstrations to drive the industry. He required all subdistricts and towns to guide farmers in mastering management techniques according to the mid-to-late stage pepper field management opinions proposed by Agriculture Bureau experts. These were: strengthening weeding, hilling soil and raising beds, rational topdressing, and pest and disease control.

Liu Chengwen, member of the County Party Committee Standing Committee, emphasized at the meeting that the pepper production was growing very well and a bumper harvest was in sight, which was the result of cadres and the masses working together. We should take the food park as the leader and build the most distinctive agricultural production, processing and sales industry chain in the Chongqing area. All subdistricts and towns should effectively implement current pepper field management, raise yields to a new level, run the pepper festival well, and raise the benefits of pepper production to a new height.
