Science and technology boost the rapid development of animal husbandry in Weng'an County, Guizhou
Weng'an County, Guizhou uses science and technology to drive the rapid development of animal husbandry
(Agricultural Wealth Network) Animal husbandry in Weng'an County has developed rapidly, with pig production soaring from an annual output of 180,000 head in the past to 574,000 head in 2008, and it is expected to reach 640,000 head this year.
In 2006, Weng'an County was listed by the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Finance as one of the pilot counties for building demonstration counties under the "Science and Technology Enriches the People and Strengthens the County" program. The county Party committee and county government attached great importance to the implementation of this project, treating the special action plan project of "Science and Technology Enriches the People and Strengthens the County" as an important lever for advancing new rural construction and the ecological circular agricultural economy, building on its own advantages, focusing on building animal husbandry into a pillar industry, and formulating a project implementation plan and implementation opinions. Through nearly 3 years of meticulous implementation, a total investment of 127.2 million yuan was reached, of which 2 million yuan came from central government funds. After the project is completed, it will achieve an annual output of more than 640,000 head of high-quality meat pigs, sales output value of 486.4 million yuan, annual net income from pig farming of 112.8 million yuan, and tax revenue of more than 10 million yuan.
Through the implementation of the project, the capacity building of Weng'an County Xingye Animal Husbandry Development Co., Ltd. was completed; the technological transformation of Weng'an County Qianyuan Food Co., Ltd., a prefecture-level leading enterprise, was completed; the construction of the animal husbandry information service system in 23 townships across the county was completed; the introduction of new technologies and new varieties for county-level backbone animal husbandry enterprises and core townships was completed; Weng'an County Xingwang Improved Breed Pig Breeding and Promotion Farm, a provincial-level leading enterprise, was cultivated; and the pollution-free pig production area certification of 17 villages in 3 townships was approved.
Over the past 3 years, the county has also taken advantage of the opportunity of implementing the annual pilot county for science and technology to tilt the allocation of industry quotas for science and technology toward animal husbandry, and has dispatched a large number of science and technology to station in pig breeding, animal husbandry processing enterprises and key breeding demonstration areas throughout the county to provide on-site and on-factory guidance. By 2009, the county had hired more than 70 science and technology to provide on-site guidance, effectively providing technical support to animal husbandry enterprises and breeding households. In the process of implementing the science and technology system, Weng'an County actively and proactively carried out scientific and technological exchanges and cooperation with research institutes and colleges such as the Guizhou Academy of Agricultural Sciences, the College of Animal Science of Guizhou University, the Qiannan Animal Husbandry Center, and Qiannan Normal College, giving full play to the role of three externally hired science and technology - Professor Chen Muhua of the College of Animal Science of Guizhou University, animal husbandry technician Zeng Guixiang of the Qiannan Animal Husbandry Center, and lecturer Li Yuhong of Qiannan Normal College - carrying out technical training, demonstration, guidance and scientific research and development work centered on the animal husbandry industry, and making positive contributions to the development of animal husbandry in Weng'an.
