This year, the Minhe Hui and Tu Autonomous County took organizing and transporting seasonal cotton pickers as an important measure to maintain sustained growth in labor service income and ease the employment pressure brought by the financial crisis. Through measures such as "advance arrangements, docking and negotiations between the two places, special train transport, and follow-up services," it ensured the strong momentum of going to Xinjiang to pick cotton. This year, through various channels, a total of 31,738 cotton pickers were organized and sent to Xinjiang, an increase of 6,600 people over the previous year, or 26.26%.
According to a survey by the labor service office stationed in ** by Minhe County, this year the highest income of cotton pickers from Minhe County reached more than 5,000 yuan, while the lowest income was around 2,000 yuan, with per capita cotton-picking income of more than 2,900 yuan. It is understood that this year the work fields of Minhe County's cotton pickers in Xinjiang have expanded from cotton picking alone to industries such as construction, highways, railways, reed harvesting, warehousing, and tomato processing. At present, nearly 4,000 cotton pickers plan to postpone their work time to December to earn a little more income through picking tomatoes and grapes and through construction, processing and manufacturing, and other industries.
