50,000 Special Poultry Find a Home on the Plateau Pasture in Wuqia County
**50,000 Special Poultry "Fly" into the Plateau Pasture in Wuqia County
(Agricultural Wealth Network) On the largest summer pasture in southern Xinjiang - the Yuqitash Pasture in Wuqia County, more than 12,000 Pamir chickens forage happily beside the snow-white yurts. This was a scene the author witnessed personally a few days ago.
In order to make full use of the existing pasture resources, Wuqia County invested 200,000 yuan specifically to purchase 8 incubators and more than 50,000 hatching eggs of chickens, red-billed geese, ducks, pigeons and other specialty poultry for self-incubation. After growing for two months into chicks, Party members and cadres from paired assistance units delivered them free of charge to the yurts of impoverished herders for free-range grazing on the pasture.
Over the past two years, Wuqia County has treated the specialty breeding industry as an important channel to drive economic development and boost the income of farmers and herders, dividing the entire county into 10 specialty breeding zones, investing more than 3 million yuan to build 2 poultry incubation and breeding bases with an annual supply capacity of 400,000 chicks (birds), and building 4 brooding centers in 4 townships including Heiziwei Township. At present, the county raises 300,000 specialty poultry of 14 varieties, and each township has also formed 2-3 farmer and herder breeding, fattening and sales associations, helping red-billed goose specialty breeding become large-scale and industrialized.
Zhang Ping, the county's deputy head in charge of agriculture, told the author: Now we are working hard to transform scientific and technological achievements and hand over specialty breeding techniques and development space to farmers and herders, so as to strengthen their "blood-generating" capacity for becoming wealthy, which has already shown initial results.
"In the past, our red-billed geese could only be sold to Kashgar and Kizilsu, but now Urumqi, and even inland cities such as Dalian and Guangzhou, can eat the red-billed geese we raise, so no matter how many we raise, we are not worried at all." Ayup, a specialized red-billed goose farmer in Kizilargen Village, Bayinkuluti Township, with a breeding scale of 4,500 red-billed geese, said proudly.
It is understood that the county has invested more than 16 million yuan to fence off all existing pastures for specialty poultry grazing. At present, more than 50,000 specialty poultry (birds) in the county have been distributed to more than 1,200 impoverished farmer and herder households, directly driving more than 3,000 farmer and herder households to develop plateau specialty poultry breeding, and this year the planned breeding scale is to reach 250,000 birds.
"Free-range grazing of specialty poultry on the pasture not only saves feeding costs, but also eliminates locusts and nourishes the grass. The specialty poultry produced has delicious meat and is a veritable plateau green free-range chicken, deeply welcomed by the market." said Wang Qiwei, Party secretary of Ulugqat Township.
