Bumper harvest of Korean yellow-heart napa cabbage in Cuijiazhuang, Pinggu, Beijing
(Agricultural Wealth Network) Recently, the 200 mu of Korean yellow-heart napa cabbage cultivated and planted in Cuijiazhuang Village, Donggaocun Town, has enjoyed a bumper harvest.

Korean yellow-heart napa cabbage has dark green outer leaves and bright yellow inner leaves, a fresh and crisp taste, and high nutritional value. It is a napa cabbage variety specially used for making Korean kimchi, and is also the best choice for hot pot vegetables. After processing, the stalks become "yellow-heart" dried vegetables, which have a good texture after stewing and are a cash crop with considerable returns. Every year in early November, the harvest period for yellow-heart napa cabbage begins, with an output of up to 12,000 jin per mu.

Wang Jian and Bao Fengxia, a couple from Cuijiazhuang Village, Donggaocun Town, introduced this variety from Korea in 2003 for small-scale trial planting. After 5 years of exploration, the results were gratifying. Ordinary napa cabbage sells for about 1 jiao, but yellow-heart napa cabbage about 3 liang in size sells for 4 jiao per head, and those over 1 jin 5 liang sell for 4 jiao per jin. The returns from yellow-heart napa cabbage are 4 times those of ordinary napa cabbage.

Having tasted the benefits, the couple established a vegetable cooperative led by their own family, opened up markets with Jingkelong and Carrefour, signed vegetable planting contracts with farmers who joined the cooperative, provided farmers with one-stop services covering production, supply, sales, and deep processing of products, and led farmers to become prosperous together.
