Origin Market Enriches Vegetable Growers: Jixian County in Tianjin Builds an Agricultural Demonstration Park to Solve the Difficulty of Selling Vegetables
(Agricultural Wealth Network)    Walking into the vegetable wholesale market in Houjiaying Town, Jixian County, the reporter saw vegetables picked from various greenhouses being transported into the market one after another, with an endless stream of vehicles collecting and shipping vegetables. Guangzhou vegetable dealer Weng Shaoxiong was even busier, organizing more than 10 tons of vegetables to be sent to the Guangzhou market every day. Like Old Weng, more than 10 vegetable dealers from Beijing, Tianjin and other places also reside permanently in the market. According to reports, since the market opened in May this year, it has traded more than 5,000 tons of various greenhouse vegetables, all sold to major cities such as Beijing, Tianjin and Guangdong, bringing local farmers more than 15 million yuan in income.
In recent years, Jixian County has focused on building an urban modern agricultural industrial system and vigorously developed green, efficient modern facility agriculture. In 2007, the county and Shouguang, Shandong jointly established Tianjin Lüyi Manor Vegetable Co., Ltd. in Houjiaying Town. By implementing the industrialization model of "company + base + farmers," it attracted a large number of farmers to join the cooperative. Up to now, more than 1,000 farming households in Houjiaying Town have joined the cooperative and built greenhouses.

Facility agriculture has gradually reached scale, but how to sell the produce troubled farmers and also troubled the government. In order to solve the "difficulty of selling," they invested 100 million yuan to plan and build an agricultural products logistics park covering an area of 300 mu. As an important part of the logistics operation, 10 million yuan was invested to build a vegetable origin wholesale market covering 40 mu, with 2 cold storage warehouses of 300 cubic meters, 1 vegetable inspection shed of 1,450 square meters, and complete supporting facilities such as water, electricity and roads.

The improvement of the market and the smooth sales channels strengthened local farmers' confidence in developing facility agriculture. Vegetable grower Chen Yonghong said that he had previously been engaged in timber sales. After an introduction by the town and an on-site inspection in Shouguang, Shandong, he felt that vegetable greenhouses had very good development prospects, so he cooperated with others and invested 1.5 million yuan to build 200 mu of greenhouses for growing vegetables. When the reporter asked whether he was worried about investing so much money, Chen Yonghong said bluntly: "Good policies, good varieties, good sales, there is nothing to worry about. Recovering the investment in 3 years is no problem."
