Heilongjiang Province's grain commodity rate has increased to about 80%
(Agricultural Wealth Network)    With the support of the state's preferential agricultural policies, the total grain output and grain commodity rate of Heilongjiang Province, China's "grain barn," have steadily increased in recent years. A reporter learned from the Office for the Revitalization of Old Industrial Bases in Heilongjiang Province that last year the province's total grain output reached 42.25 million tons, and the grain commodity rate reached about 80%, with large quantities of commercial grain sold to markets outside the province.

Heilongjiang Province is China's largest commercial grain production base and enjoys the reputation of "North China's Great Granary." During the six years since the implementation of the strategy for revitalizing old industrial bases, the province has continuously increased investment in agricultural infrastructure and agricultural science and technology, driving the province's total grain output to repeated record highs and achieving four historic breakthroughs in sown area, total output, per-unit yield and high-quality rate.

In 2004, Heilongjiang Province's total grain output exceeded 30 million tons, and thereafter remained stable at above 30 million tons for consecutive years. In 2008, the province's total grain output exceeded the 40 million ton mark for the first time, reaching 42.25 million tons, with the grain commodity rate reaching about 80%, making a new contribution to safeguarding national food security. This year, Heilongjiang Province's total grain output is expected to exceed 42.5 million tons, setting another historic high.

A person from the Office for the Revitalization of Old Industrial Bases in Heilongjiang Province said that in the future the province will continuously improve basic conditions in agriculture and rural areas, especially by advancing key water conservancy project construction and strengthening rural infrastructure development. Relying on advantages such as uniquely favorable agricultural resources, large-scale agricultural production and operation, and a high degree of mechanization, it will accelerate the development of modern agriculture and build a reliable national "great granary."
