Rice pest and disease control in Shanghai's Minhang District achieves results this year

(Agricultural Wealth Network) This year, with the joint efforts of plant protection officers at the district and town levels, all types of pest and disease damage in rice production in Minhang District were kept to a minimum, and pest and disease control achieved remarkable results. According to surveys, this year the pest and disease damage rates or occurrence levels all decreased compared with last year, among them: the white ear rate from stem borer damage was 0.02%; the white leaf rate from rice leaf roller damage was 0.05%, and the rate of plants with sheath blight was 1.19%; the residual population of rice planthopper was 24,900 per mu, and the incidence of rice false smut and rice blast was zero;; the disease index of stripe disease was 0.12;, and there were no dead spots in rice throughout the district. Last year, the white ear rate from stem borer damage, the white leaf rate from rice leaf roller damage, the rate of plants with sheath blight, and the residual population of rice planthopper were 1.25%, 0.98%, 8.23%, and 272,600 per mu respectively.

Rice production this year will again be a year of bumper harvest and increased yield. The district agricultural technology center recently asked plant protection workers at all levels to make persistent efforts and do a good job in chemical seed treatment of wheat for autumn sowing and chemical weeding in the fields, so as to lay a solid foundation for a bumper summer grain harvest next year.
