Zhejiang Songyang Receives the Title of "Top Ten Specialty Tea-Producing Counties in China"
(Agricultural Wealth Network) Recently, at the 5th China Tea Industry Economic Annual Conference held in Chengdu, Songyang County was awarded the titles of "National Key Tea-Producing County" and "Top Ten Specialty Tea-Producing Counties in China." This is another honor for the county following such distinctive agricultural titles as "Hometown of Chinese Famous Tea," "Chinese Green Tea Distribution Center," and "Strong Tea County of Zhejiang Province."

This selection was conducted by the China Tea Marketing Association over more than two months, comprehensively evaluating the tea production, cultivation, processing, sales, and foreign trade of over 1,000 tea-producing counties nationwide, selecting the 2009 National Key Tea-Producing Counties, and on this basis selecting the National Specialty Tea-Producing Counties. A total of 128 counties and cities from 15 provinces across the country competed for the first batch of "Top Ten National Specialty Tea-Producing Counties" titles, and Songyang County's tea industry won this title for its distinctive characteristics.

Zhang Zengli, Chairman of the Songyang County CPPCC, and Ye Zhengxian, Deputy County Head, attended this annual conference. At the conference, Deputy County Head Ye Zhengxian gave an introduction on Songyang's experience in gradually developing and growing from a small tea county into a major and strong tea county. In recent years, the Songyang County Party Committee and County Government promptly made the decision to develop and strengthen the Songyang tea industry, focusing on the goals of building "Zhejiang's No. 1 Ecological Green Tea County" and a "Chinese Green Tea Distribution Center," striving to implement the four major strategies of "invigorating tea through science and technology, invigorating tea through leading enterprises, invigorating tea through the market, and invigorating tea through culture," and comprehensively promoting the industrialized development of tea. Through years of unremitting efforts, the Songyang tea industry has grown increasingly strong, rising abruptly amid fierce market competition and winning widespread praise from the industry. In 2009, Songyang County's total tea output is expected to reach 8,460 tons, with an output value of 484 million yuan; the trading volume of the Zhejiang South Tea Market will reach 35,000 tons, with a transaction value of up to 1.2 billion yuan. The tea industry has become the leading industry of the county's agriculture and a pillar industry for increasing farmers' income, and has also become a golden calling card for the county's external image. At this tea industry economic annual conference, Songyang County's Zhejiang Zhentonghong Tea Co., Ltd. also received the title of "Top 100 Enterprises in China's Tea Industry."
