Shaanxi Ganquan specialty snacks drive county economy development
(Agricultural Wealth Network)     Recently, in supermarkets and restaurants in major cities such as Shanghai and Xi'an, many specialty foods from Ganquan County, including dried tofu, Laoshan native eggs, and green safe vegetables, have become new favorites among consumers, also bringing rolling streams of income to the people of Ganquan.

Ganquan tofu and dried tofu are famous far and wide. The production technique was invented more than 1,400 years ago. At present, the county has 8 dried tofu processing enterprises, forming well-known brands such as "Baqianli" and "Hongli", with bean processing reaching 2,060 tons and products sold well both within and beyond the province. Recently, a reporter went deep into the county's leading dried tofu production enterprise, Baqianli Food Co., Ltd., for an interview, and saw more than 100 workers busily working on the enterprise's production line. Zhou Zhong, the person in charge of the enterprise, said that because demand exceeds supply, the company has adopted the method of keeping the machines running without stopping and having workers work in two shifts to increase product output. On another plot of vacant land less than 50 meters from the enterprise, about 20,000 square meters in size, the roar of concrete mixers and trucks was endless. Pointing to that construction site, Zhou Zhong said proudly: "That is the construction site for the enterprise's new plant for capacity expansion and increased production. After the new plant is built, the company will be able to produce more than 50 varieties in four major series around soybean products."

It is understood that in 2008 the county party committee and county government proposed the goal of building a "county with a nationally renowned soybean product production base". For this goal and to build the "dried tofu" calling card, and to give play to the leading enterprise's driving role, the county made efforts on multiple fronts to obtain land for capacity expansion for the leading dried tofu processing enterprise Baqianli Food Company, and led the person in charge of Baqianli Food Company to Shanghai to attract investment. Through these efforts, a cooperation intention was signed with Shanghai Wangxin Soybean Product Machinery Company. In March next year, the company's new production line will be put into use. By then, the enterprise is expected to produce 10,000 tons of products a year, with annual taxes and profits paid reaching 20 million yuan. After 5 years, output will reach 13,000 tons, with taxes and profits paid reaching 22 million yuan. At the same time, the county's red adzuki beans, which cross the sea east to Japan, achieved 1.6 million USD in foreign exchange earnings from red adzuki bean exports in 2007 alone, with a cumulative total of 8.475 million USD. Its processing enterprise Xingyin International Trade Company fully leverages the county's advantage of having the red adzuki bean origin mark certified by the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine. Against the backdrop of the economic crisis, it has increased research on deep processing of red adzuki beans. At present, the company's soybean product deep processing production project, the bean paste processing plant, has already begun construction. Ganquan's "safe vegetables" and Laoshan egg series specialty products, relying on their reassuring quality and unique flavor, have become another beautiful green "calling card" of Ganquan County in the new era. In 2008, Ganquan, as the only county in Yan'an City commended by the Shaanxi Provincial Party Committee and Provincial Government as a "one village, one product" county, had 6 vegetable varieties and 17,000 mu of vegetable production base certified as national green food.
