Jinfeng District, Ningxia Actively Takes Measures to Prevent Snow and Frost Damage in Facility Greenhouses
(Agricultural Wealth Network) According to the district meteorological bureau forecast, cold air activity affecting the city will be frequent and relatively strong over the coming week. From November 10 to 12, the city will be mainly overcast with continuous snowfall, temperatures will drop sharply, and sunlight will be seriously insufficient. The city's lowest temperature will reach around -12°C, with a drop of -8°C to -10°C. This is currently a critical period for autumn-winter crop production in facility greenhouses. Because winter has just begun, some parks and farmers are insufficiently prepared to guard against snowy and cooling weather. This snowfall and cooling process will last a relatively long time and will affect facility greenhouse production. The Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Water Affairs Bureau of Jinfeng District has actively taken measures to prevent the adverse effects of snowfall, cooling, and prolonged overcast weather on facility greenhouse production, ensuring the safe production of facility agriculture.
On November 12, the Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Water Affairs Bureau of Jinfeng District held an emergency meeting, activated the disaster prevention and mitigation emergency plan, deployed work to prevent heavy snow and cooling, and arranged for each center to do a good job in snow and frost prevention for facility agriculture.
On the same day, professional and technical personnel were divided into five working groups, led by Deputy Director Zhang Yibo, with heads of each center leading teams to various towns and villages to carry out extensive publicity and guide farmers in snow prevention, frost prevention, and temperature increase work for greenhouses. The following emergency measures were also actively taken: First, an "Urgent Notice on Further Improving Frost Prevention and Disaster Reduction Work for Facility Greenhouses" was formulated and issued to the two towns and all agriculture-related offices. Second, technical personnel from each regional center went to the facility agriculture areas of Liangtian Town, Fengdeng Town, and all agriculture-related subdistrict offices to carry out extensive publicity, use various measures, raise awareness of prevention, promptly grasp weather change information, and organize the public to prevent snow and freezing damage. They provided on-site guidance to farmers for classified management according to local conditions. Third, more than 500 copies of technical guidance measure leaflets on wind prevention and frost prevention were printed and distributed to farmers in facility parks, guiding farmers to promptly clear snow from greenhouse roofs according to conditions and prevent the collapse of greenhouses with low construction standards; cover the straw mats with a layer of plastic film or rainproof cloth, which both insulates and makes it easier to sweep away snow while protecting the straw mats; when the temperature inside the greenhouse is below 8-10°C, heating stoves, electric heaters, high-power light bulbs, etc. can be installed inside the greenhouse, or plastic film can be added over the greenhouse or small arched sheds can be added; after continuous overcast and snowy weather clears, pay attention to appropriately recovering the straw mats at noon to prevent seedling damage from sudden exposure; when the weather clears, pull up the straw mats as soon as possible to supplement light and raise the temperature inside the greenhouse; if the humidity inside the greenhouse is too high, ventilate moderately after the outside temperature rises to remove excess moisture and harmful gases. Fourth, during this week's holiday period, 1-2 technical personnel are required to be arranged at each facility production base to do a good job in technical guidance.
