Japanese media says China and Japan will hold first consultations on food safety
According to Japan's Jiji Press, on the 9th, Japanese Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare Akira Nagatsuma said that on the 23rd he will hold the first consultations in Tokyo with visiting Chinese Health Minister Chen Zhu on the new food safety cooperation mechanism agreed upon by the leaders of the two countries.

The report said the consultations are being held on the occasion of the regular meeting of the health ministers of China, Japan and South Korea.

The media said China has similar mechanisms with the United States and the European Union. It is expected that the two sides will, on this basis, exchange views on regular consultations between ministers and the dispatch of Japanese food safety officials to multiple Chinese cities.

The report said this matter will probably still need to be coordinated with China's General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine and Japan's Consumer Affairs Agency.
