EPA to Introduce New Pesticide Labels
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will soon introduce new pesticide label instructions to reduce off-target spraying and drift of pesticides. Once the new instructions take effect, they will improve the clarity and consistency of pesticide labels and reduce the harm caused by spray drift.

The EPA stated that the new pesticide labels will provide specific direction for reducing pesticide spray drift, establish more uniform and clear pesticide standards, and give pesticide users clear guidance, prohibiting pesticide drift that causes adverse effects on human health and the natural environment.

In addition, the EPA will examine scientific information related to the use risks of individual pesticide products; this information will help the EPA decide how to take other measures to protect people, wildlife, water resources, schools and other sensitive sites from the potential hazards of these pesticides. Specific contents include controlling the droplet or particle size of pesticide sprays, the height of nozzles, and restricting pesticide use according to weather conditions.

The EPA is currently drafting an explanatory document for the new pesticide label draft, which will provide the public with information related to pesticide drift and disclose the environmental protection programs the EPA is currently focused on and its future plans.
