Diouf urges G8 to implement agricultural aid as soon as possible
UN Food and Agriculture Organization Director-General Diouf said at the Rome headquarters on the 16th that the Group of Eight needs to implement the agricultural aid commitments it made at the L'Aquila summit.

At the World Summit on Food Security, Diouf said the G8 had issued a joint declaration on global food security at the L'Aquila summit held in July this year, pledging 20 billion US dollars in agricultural funding aid to developing countries over the next three years, which is an "encouraging signal" for the world. But so far "the commitment remains only a commitment," and concrete funding still needs to be delivered. He stressed that funding is especially needed now for agricultural infrastructure construction and equipment, because the Northern Hemisphere will enter the sowing season next March.

The World Summit on Food Security issued a joint declaration that day, stating that it will strive to achieve the hunger eradication goal set by the UN Millennium Development Goals, and stressing that it is crucial for developed countries to fulfill their official development assistance commitments.
