UN Secretary-General calls for measures to address the food crisis
According to a November 16 report on the United Nations website, at the World Summit on Food Security held in Rome, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said that 1 billion people worldwide currently face hunger, and comprehensive measures must be taken to address the food problems caused by increasingly severe climate change and population growth. By 2050, the global population is expected to reach 9.1 billion, and food demand will increase by 70% compared with now. He called for emergency food aid, social relief and other measures in the short term, and for achieving long-term goals by increasing investment in agricultural development, ensuring food production efficiency, protecting smallholder farmers, and promoting market access and fair trade.
