“In recent years, as soon as these few days arrive, we start digging konjac here. Buyers and traders are running all over the place, and it is very lively.” Yang Wenge, who lives in the Fifth Village of Mei County, was really busy during New Year's Day. Farmers in Mei County grow konjac, and buyers come directly to the fields to purchase it. In some places, traders even rushed to buy it. The purchase price rose from 1.1 yuan last year to 1.6 yuan this year, and the income from one mu of konjac reached over 10,000 yuan. Today, konjac has already become another new path for farmers in Mei County to increase income and get rich.
It is understood that in recent years, because the konjac market has great potential, farmers have been very enthusiastic about growing konjac, but due to a lack of guidance and professional cultivation advice, yields were not high, and the crop was all bought up by scattered traders from other places. Yang Wenge is a capable man in the Fifth Village of Mei County and has long operated formwork leasing, with booming business. In recent years, after discovering that konjac cultivation has good prospects, he took the lead in growing konjac. Yang Wenge said: “Last year, the whole village grew more than 100 mu of konjac, with output reaching more than 900,000 jin, and income from one mu reaching over 10,000 yuan. This year, some nearby villages have also begun growing konjac. The area has increased quite a lot, and the purchase price offered by traders is also 4 to 5 mao higher than last year. Our family's 2 mu of konjac has an output of about 21,000 jin and income of more than 30,000 yuan.” Yang Wenge said: the konjac grown by farmers is all purchased by traders from Hanzhong and processed into konjac flour, which is then sold at high prices to large supermarkets and food processing enterprises across the country.
Jiao Linlin, Party branch secretary of the Fifth Village, told reporters that konjac is another major planting industry after kiwifruit, with considerable income. The village plans to establish a konjac planting cooperative to organize and guide the people to grow it on a large scale. At the same time, it also hopes that by encouraging private investment and the government's investment promotion, deep processing of konjac products can be carried out, the konjac industry chain can be extended, and this industry that increases farmers' income and makes them rich can be made bigger.
