The yellow mealworm farming industry has bright prospects -- farming yellow mealworms to get rich
As a species in nature, the yellow mealworm belongs to the order Coleoptera in insect taxonomy. It was originally a stored-product pest and is commonly known as the breadworm. It has the characteristics of fast growth, a high reproduction coefficient and high protein content. It is feed for birds, turtles, snakes, scorpions, fish, forest frogs and others, and is also a high-protein, low-fat insect food. At present it is mainly used for export

Prospect analysis of the yellow mealworm farming project
1. The yellow mealworm has many uses

The yellow mealworm is rich in the nine essential amino acids for humans as well as protein, free amino acids, vitamins, mineral elements, unsaturated fatty acids and other nutrients. It also contains chitin, antimicrobial peptide defensins and exogenous lectins, and can be used as a whole-form food and as a seasoning powder for soy sauce products, composite amino acids and snacks. Yellow mealworm oil can be used to make soap, lubricants and plasticizers and so on. It can replace fish bone meal and meat and bone meal as a protein feed. Molted skins and adult shells can be used to extract chitin and chitosan. Insect frass (sand frass) can be used as bio-organic fertilizer. In Wuhan, the Jiuliwan Company has already developed "insect foods" using this insect as a raw material -- Jiuliwan liquor and Jiuliwan dried noodles.
2. Yellow mealworms are easy to farm, grow fast and reproduce abundantly

Yellow mealworm feeding requires little technical know-how, involves low labor intensity, is simple to operate and easy to manage. It has low requirements for the surrounding environment, and can be farmed in urban and rural residential houses, on balconies, or in abandoned civilian houses, warehouses and simple shacks; yellow mealworms have a wide range of feed, eating wheat bran, rice bran, corn husks, soybean meal, crop straw, green vegetables, vine tendrils, distillers' grains and so on; rearing utensils can be wooden boxes, wooden racks and so on; the yellow mealworm has a growth cycle of 3 months, and each female worm can lay 300-900 eggs. It has low requirements for environmental conditions such as temperature and humidity
3. Farming yellow mealworms opens up a new way to convert crop straw

China produces 500-600 million tons of various crop straws and vine tendrils each year. Less than 20% is consumed for raising large livestock, less than 10% is used as fuel, and the rest is burned or piled up to rot naturally with no usable value, which both wastes resources and pollutes the environment. Yellow mealworms can fully convert straw and other agricultural organic waste (detritus) into substances usable by humans.
4. Benefit analysis of farming yellow mealworms

On average, 1.25-1.5 kg of fine and coarse feed can produce 1 kg (6000-7000 worms) of yellow mealworm larvae, with a worm meal yield of 40%-50%. Calculated at current prices, producing each 1 kg of yellow mealworms costs about 3.2-3.5 yuan, that is, the cost price is 3200-3500 yuan/ton, while the cost is only 1200-1500 yuan/ton. If you raise them for your own use, you can greatly reduce the cost of high-protein feed for farming. At present, the price of imported fish meal is 5300-5500 yuan/ton. By comparison, yellow mealworms save about 2000-2500 yuan/ton in expenses compared with fish meal. One main laborer or two auxiliary laborers can operate a worm-farming scale with an annual output of 3000 kg; creating an output value of about 40,000 yuan and a net profit of about 30,000 yuan.
