Analysis of the Value and Benefits of Scorpions

I. Timing of Introduction:

For scorpion farming at room temperature, the introduction time should be arranged in late spring and early summer or in autumn. Among these, late spring and early summer is the best time for introduction, because by then the scorpions that have hibernated have emerged from dormancy, having passed the “spring death threshold,” and adult female scorpions have already entered pregnancy and can give birth in the same year, so the introduction can yield benefits in that same year.

II. Sources of Breeding Scorpions:

One is to catch wild scorpions or purchase wild scorpions as breeding scorpions.

The second is to buy from artificial scorpion farming units or individuals. For beginners, using wild scorpions as breeding scorpions is not advisable.

III. Selection of Breeding Scorpions:

When introducing breeding scorpions, you should have a detailed understanding of the scorpions being introduced, such as the breed of the breeding scorpions, the scorpion age, and whether the female scorpions are pregnant. Select and purchase young scorpions, adult scorpions, or pregnant scorpions according to need. For male scorpions, choose those with a strong physique, bright body color, lively strength, and strong sexual drive as breeding scorpions. For female scorpions, choose those that are large, with a body length above 4.8 cm, with no missing limbs, robust, agile in movement, with the rear abdomen curled when at rest, a plump front abdomen, and glossy skin as breeding scorpions. Generally, spring female scorpions, as long as the front abdomen is plump and full and light gray in color, with a body length of about 5 cm, have a relatively high birth rate and give birth early. Female scorpions that are too short in body, even if they have a large abdomen and correct color, should not be readily selected as breeding stock, because their reproduction period is often later and cannot meet breeding requirements.

IV. Matching of Females and Males:

Some farmers, when introducing breeding stock, select only female scorpions and no male scorpions in order to obtain more baby scorpions. This practice is wrong. According to the mating pattern of scorpions, the ratio of female to male scorpions should preferably be matched at 2-3:1.

V. Transportation of Breeding Scorpions:

Generally, the introduction tools are cardboard boxes and non-toxic woven bags, and the suitable density during transport is 500 scorpions per bag. During transport, first put the breeding scorpions into clean, undamaged woven bags and tie the openings, then place them into a cardboard box with sponge or cardboard, paper balls, etc. at the bottom, and then put several wet sponge pieces into the cardboard box to regulate the humidity inside the box. In addition, several ventilation holes should be made around the upper part of the cardboard box to allow ventilation and air flow. Severe vibration should be avoided during transport. In summer transport, pay attention to preventing high temperatures, and in winter, pay attention to preventing cold.
