Hybrid rice experts from various provinces across the country came to Leifeng Village, Yangguao Township, Longhui County, to organize and guide on-site the harvesting and acceptance inspection of the "Y Liangyou No. 2" super hybrid rice developed by Academician Yuan Longping
Xinhua News Agency, Changsha, September 19 (Reporters Yu Zhiming and Tan Jian) The third-phase target of 900 kg per mu for super rice under the guidance of Yuan Longping, the father of hybrid rice and an academician, has been achieved, with the 100-mu experimental plot in Longhui County reaching a yield of 926.6 kg per mu.
The above news was learned by reporters on the afternoon of September 19 at a press conference held by the Hunan Provincial Academy of Agricultural Sciences.
It is understood that the 100-mu experimental plot tasked with breaking through the 900 kg per mu barrier is located in Leifeng Village, Yangguao Township, Longhui County, Shaoyang City, Hunan Province, with 18 experimental plots totaling 107.9 mu. On September 18, this 100-mu super hybrid rice experimental plot of "Y Liangyou No. 2" developed by Yuan Longping officially began harvesting and acceptance inspection.
Yuan Longping: Striving to achieve 1000 kg per mu for super rice in about ten years
Xinhua Net, Changsha, September 19 (Reporters Tan Jian and Yu Zhiming) "After strict yield measurement, the average yield of the 108-mu 'Y Liangyou No. 2' experimental plot in Yangguao Township, Longhui County, Hunan Province, is 926.6 kg per mu." When Cheng Shihua, head of the Ministry of Agriculture acceptance expert group and director of the China National Rice Research Institute, officially announced this yield measurement figure, a smile spread across the face of Yuan Longping, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering in his eighties and the "father of hybrid rice."
On the afternoon of September 19, at the "Press Conference on Major Breakthrough in the Third-Phase Target of Super Hybrid Rice" held at the Hunan Hybrid Rice Research Center, Yuan Longping "appeared" in a white suit. Facing the encirclement of reporters' "long guns and short cannons," the elderly gentleman could not contain his inner excitement and joy.
"I waited in the office all day yesterday, and at night I was very anxious and could not sleep. It was not until 12:30 a.m. that I received the yield measurement data sent by the expert group, and a stone in my heart was finally lifted," Yuan Longping said.
