Running her own chicken farm, a post-90s girl from Kaifeng sells chickens on Weibo

She is an ordinary girl, with long hair, who loves to smile. To work for herself, she began her entrepreneurial path——ecological chicken farming, and selling chickens via Weibo. Blazing an unconventional trail, as a post-90s girl she is realizing her pastoral startup dream step by step.

Post-90s girl from Kaifeng Jia Meng sells chickens on Weibo

From rookie to near-expert

Yesterday morning, at a chicken farm of more than 80 mu in the western suburbs of Zhengzhou, camphor trees, red-flowered locust trees and other trees could be seen in the distance, and the crowing of chickens could be heard from time to time amid the greenery.

Jia Meng put on a “white coat”, put on rubber boots, came to the chicken coop, and together with the workers “invited out” more than 2,000 free-range chickens. Feeding feed, cleaning the chicken coop, injecting vaccines…… now she is thoroughly at home doing all of this.

“Actually, I knew very little about raising chickens before,” she said. She just slowly learned and practiced according to the guidance in books. “The feed for the chickens is mainly soybean meal and corn, mixed by ourselves, and the proportions differ at different stages.”

When talking about raising chickens, she already seems like an expert. “Cage-raised chickens can be sent to market in 45 days. The free-range chickens here generally have to be raised for half a year, and only then do the chickens grow to 3 jin.”

Jia Meng is from Kaifeng, Henan, and was born in 1991. After graduating from middle school, Jia Meng worked at a hotel in Zhengzhou. “I would always hear people say the chicken did not taste good,” Jia Meng said, so she had the idea of running a chicken farm. “Free-range chicken meat is firm, and the taste is fresh too.”

Selling chickens on Weibo

They drove 20 li to buy chickens

Selling was not as simple as imagined. How could more people know about it? As a post-90s trendsetter, Jia Meng thought of selling chickens on Tencent Weibo. On September 16, she posted her first Weibo message about selling chickens.

On the afternoon of September 28, citizen Mr. Zhang drove to the chicken farm. “We saw on Tencent Weibo that there are ecological chickens here, and drove more than 20 li to come here.”

“A chicken here is 65 yuan, and an egg is 1.3 yuan, more than double the market price.” Mr. Zhang said, but ecological farming requires a long time and large investment, so it is also acceptable.
“During the seven days of the ‘National Day’ holiday, we sold more than 300 free-range chickens.” Jia Meng introduced that many people learned about her chicken farm through Weibo.

“The water quality here is also very good,” Jia Meng said. There is also a fish pond. “In the future, people who come to buy chickens can also fish here. It is very pastoral.”

Ecological farming is this post-90s girl’s firm choice and dream. She is different from others, unique.
