Pork prices fall, farmers eager to sell off stock, earning two to three hundred yuan less per pig
Recently, the previously high pork prices have declined, and consumers can finally breathe a sigh of relief, saying: pork prices have finally dropped! But this has had a certain impact on farmers. Because pigs were concentrated in the pens, pork prices fell, and each pig brought in two to three hundred yuan less. However, supply capacity has not seen any substantial increase, so the room for further decline is expected to be limited.
Recently, live pig prices in many areas such as Shandong and Liaoning have continued to decline. The live pig purchase price has fallen to around 18 yuan/kg, and some farmers have begun to send pigs to market early to "dump" them. Yesterday, monitoring results released by the price department showed that pork prices across the province had fallen for 16 consecutive days.
According to the data, pork prices across the province have continued to decline since the 9th. Last week (October 17 to 21), the monitored provincial average prices per 500 grams of lean pork, pork leg meat, and pork ribs were 17.98 yuan, 14.77 yuan, and 18.05 yuan respectively, down 1.37%, 0.20%, and 0.99% compared with the previous week; compared with the same period last year, the average increase was 36.15%, but on a month-on-month basis it showed a slow downward trend.
Yesterday, among the 3 pork varieties monitored by the Wuhan Price Bureau, the average prices per 500 grams (same below) of pork leg meat, pork ribs, and lean pork were 14.39 yuan, 18.43 yuan, and 17.28 yuan, down slightly by 0.21%, 1.34%, and 0.8% respectively from the previous day. The live pig purchase price was 915 yuan/50 kg, remaining stable. "(Prices) have a downward trend, but it is not obvious." At the Wutie Jiayuan vegetable market in Wuchang District, stall owner Master Zhang said that prices had fallen slightly in the past half month, but the margin was not very large. However, at the Shizhigou pig farm in Yinlian Lake, Hannan, farmers felt differently. Large-scale farmer Li Chunqiao said that the recent decline in pork wholesale prices has had a very obvious impact on farmers, with each pig earning two to three hundred yuan less. He believes that the pigs are growing well, and too many are being kept in pens, which has caused the temporary price decline. After winter begins, prices will rise.
Price monitoring personnel from the provincial price bureau believe that the current supply capacity of live pigs still has not seen a substantial large increase, and as the peak demand season gradually approaches, the room for pork prices to fall is still limited.
