Why can strawberries still bloom and bear fruit in winter?

As is well known, the strawberry is a perennial herbaceous plant, but it is unusual for it to still bloom and bear fruit as autumn turns to winter. Yesterday, at the press conference held in Chang'an District, Xi'an, during the 18th Yangling Agricultural High-Tech Fair, reporters witnessed this remarkable sight.
Chang'an strawberries have a rich fruity aroma, tender and juicy, tempting anyone to take a bite. According to staff, ecological Chang'an, with the Qinling Mountains to its south, has beautiful scenery and abundant produce, and is internationally recognized as the best strawberry production area. At present, Chang'an strawberries have grown to 12,000 mu, of which 3,200 mu are deep-winter strawberries, mainly distributed in Lingzhao, Mawang, Wuxing and other places. The cultivated varieties include Zhangji, Fengxiang, Hongyan, Sweet Charlie and nearly ten others, with an annual output of 18,000 tons.
By adopting a series of new technologies such as four-film mulching and micro-drip irrigation, the market period for Chang'an strawberries can be extended from November in winter to May of the following year, filling the gap in the winter strawberry market in the northwest region and becoming a new way to increase farmers' income and improve agricultural efficiency.
In addition, at this flower industry investment promotion and strawberry recommendation press conference, reporters also learned that Chang'an District is seeking investment for the newly planned 10,000 mu Qinling Flower Garden, the 750 mu Yipin Chang'an Flower Expo Garden, and the 800 mu Xi'an Oasis Agricultural Science and Technology Park, and signed 15 orders for flowers and strawberries with merchants from Taiwan, China, Sichuan, Shanghai and other places, with a contract value of 858 million yuan.
