Five elements to pay attention to in special animal breeding

1. Overcome the get-rich-quick mentality

Some people take up special animal breeding because they are tempted by high returns, chasing high profits and rapid wealth. In fact, the products of special animal breeding all have a specific consumer group. Apart from artificially created periods of huge profits, their prices and demand are both constrained by market rules. Once products are oversupplied, and there is no comprehensive processing system to support them and no unique consumer base to guarantee them, a decline in prices is natural.

In special animal breeding, do not be too eager for wealth. When you target a certain project, it is best to invest a moderate amount, using a relatively small investment to understand and learn about the market, and only after you are confident should you invest heavily and go all out.

2. Check the market before investing

Special animal breeding carries great risk. If you do not thoroughly understand the market conditions and simply follow what others say, you will lose in nine out of ten attempts. You must be market-oriented and conduct a thorough and detailed investigation of the market capacity of the breed you plan to raise, its sales situation, the competitiveness of the same industry, how long it will remain a hot seller in the market, when saturation may appear, and when slow sales may occur, so as to decide when to start breeding and when to switch production.

You should subscribe to more science and technology newspapers and magazines on breeding. Every year there are many breeding experience exchange meetings and expos in China, so attend more of them, keep in contact with experts and professors from universities and colleges, or search for relevant information online. Only after full demonstration should you decide on a breeding project, to ensure breeding success.

3. Selecting good breeds is the foundation

When selecting superior breeds, you should, under the guidance of experts, choose breeds that have been appraised by the relevant state authorities. These breeds mostly come from research institutions, teaching institutions, and breeding farms that have passed state inspection and certification.

In particular, guard against introducing so-called superior breeds that are passed off as genuine in society, and do not introduce fake breeds just to save money. At the same time, it should also be pointed out that the successful breeding of a variety requires many years or even decades of scientific breeding to accomplish, and the technical requirements involved are also relatively high.

Now there are many farms in society that hung up their signboard yesterday and are selling breeding stock today, which should arouse vigilance. Therefore, before introducing breeding stock, farmers should inspect several farms, and then introduce breeding stock from a more reputable unit. When introducing breeding stock, you should also check the archive materials, pedigree records, and the Special Livestock and Poultry Production and Operation License of the breed being introduced, to prevent being cheated.

4. The natural environment must be suitable

Suitable climatic conditions can minimize the feeding cost of special animals to the greatest extent and improve the animals' disease resistance. Conversely, using an artificial environment not only increases feeding costs but also reduces the animals' disease resistance.

This causes the occurrence of various diseases and increases breeding risks.

For example, raising fur animals is not suitable in areas south of 30 degrees north latitude, otherwise, because winter temperatures are relatively high, the fur animals raised will have sparse fine hair and poor fur quality, and cannot fetch a high price, leading to losses; while raising bullfrogs is best done in areas south of the Yellow River, because there the high-temperature period is long, which is suitable for growth, and raising them in rice fields greatly reduces costs; if raised north of the Yellow River, the high-temperature period is short, and greenhouses and heated sheds need to be built, increasing costs.

However, for some projects with good economic benefits and high profits, artificial methods can also be used to solve the problem.

5. Products must have good sales channels

Products without sales channels should not be taken on; those that do have sales channels but only limited sales volume should be taken on in small amounts; those whose sales market has not yet formed should be taken on slowly; products with particularly strong seasonality should be produced according to different seasons, and the scale should be expanded in a planned way.
