Fresh home style: the correct way to grow spider plants

As a great indoor ornamental plant, the spider plant plays an important role in home life by regulating indoor air. But if you do not grow spider plants correctly, they are prone to yellowing leaves, which will discount the effect of home decoration. So, what should be noted when growing spider plants?

1. Temperature:

Spider plants like warm weather and are suitable for growing at around 20 degrees. In winter, pay attention to cold protection and move them indoors. Never place them in a windy spot by a window, to avoid freezing the leaves. If the temperature is too low, spider plants will stop growing, and if it is below 5 degrees, frost damage may occur.

2. Light:

Although spider plants like shade, they also need enough sunlight so the plant can carry out photosynthesis and grow normally. When light is insufficient, the leaves will turn yellow; when light is too strong, the leaves will also turn yellow and withered, or even die. In spring and autumn, they can be placed in a shady place that can receive sunlight. In summer, direct sunlight should be prevented, and more than 60% of the sunlight needs to be blocked.

3. Soil:

To plant spider plants, choose soil with good drainage and good air permeability. You can choose a mix of leaf mold, peat soil, garden soil, river sand, etc. as the growing medium. For example, you can put some water-permeable clay pebbles at the bottom of the pot, about 4 cm thick, then place the plant in the center of the pot, add the mixed soil until the pot is seven or eight parts full, press the soil firmly with your hands, and then cover the surface with a layer of clay pebbles.

4. Watering:

Spider plants prefer moisture, especially during the summer growing season, when they need to be watered once a day and the leaves sprayed with water 2 times. In spring and autumn, they can be watered once every 5 days. Because spider plants are afraid of cold, they should not be watered too much in winter to avoid freezing, and once every half a month is enough.

5. Pest and disease prevention:

Spider plants sometimes get scale insects, whiteflies, etc. If found, remove the pests promptly. When the leaves are found to be turning yellow, watering and fertilizing should be increased.

6. Fertilizing:

Spider plants quite like fertilizer. Except in winter, they can be fertilized once every 10 days. You can choose organic fertilizer liquid or fertilizer specially for spider plants, both of which are sold in flower markets. When the temperature is below 5 degrees, fertilizing should be stopped.
