The multi-tiered planting model in greenhouses yields over 12,000 yuan per mu.
The beans climbing on the concrete pillars were more than half a meter long, and the watermelons in neat rows on the ground were growing vigorously. Recently, a reporter walked into Guo Guangfu's greenhouse in Guolaohu Village, Yuji Town, Dongchangfu District, and a vibrant and thriving scene came into view. Guo Guangfu, who was picking beans, said happily: "By adopting multi-tiered planting in the greenhouse, the yield benefit per mu exceeds 12,000 yuan."
Guolaohu Village is a specialized village for growing early-spring watermelons. They gradually came onto the market starting on May 1, and by the end of May, the first crop of watermelons had basically all been sold. Because this year's watermelon market was relatively stable, at its most expensive the price was around 2 yuan per jin, and at its cheapest 1.5 yuan per jin, averaging out to a gross profit of 8,000 yuan per mu for watermelons. Because the investment cost of growing watermelons is relatively high, using high-quality chicken manure, flaxseed cake and organic bacterial fertilizer, plus the investment in buying watermelon seedlings, the benefit per mu is around 5,000 yuan.
When it comes to multi-tiered planting, Guo Guangfu spoke fluently and knowledgeably. Early-spring watermelons are planted around the Beginning of Spring, using 5-layer insulation technology, and the melon seedlings grow quickly. After 20 days, beans are interplanted under the concrete pillars. By May 20, the beans begin to be picked; at their most expensive they reached 4 yuan per jin, and the current wholesale market price is 2 yuan per jin. The beans can be picked for more than 2 months in total, with a net benefit of 2,000 yuan per mu in the greenhouse. Starting on June 1, the second crop of watermelons begins to come onto the market, with a benefit of roughly 2,000 yuan per mu. In mid-June, the melon vines are pulled up and large bell peppers are planted, using 1-meter-wide ridges, with green-stemmed cabbage planted between the pepper ridges. In the greenhouse the peppers keep growing until after Frost's Descent, while in summer the green-stemmed cabbage grows quickly and has a short growing period, with each crop taking roughly 50 days from planting to harvest, so two crops can be grown.
"Greenhouse planting technology can effectively regulate the timing of melons and vegetables coming onto the market. Using multi-tiered planting in the greenhouse allows 5 plantings and 5 harvests. It is really busy work, but the income is truly impressive, with the yield benefit per mu exceeding 12,000 yuan. Multi-tiered planting really brings in gold for greenhouse growers!" Covered in mud, with both hands holding beans, Guo Guangfu smiled brightly, his face filled with the pride of a new type of tech-savvy farmer.
