Wheat cross-regional mechanized harvesting operations generate over 30 million yuan in revenue for five consecutive years

Recently, a reporter learned from the Agricultural Machinery Bureau of Gaomi City, Shandong Province, that this year Gaomi City organized more than 1,100 machines to go to Henan, Anhui, Jiangsu and other provinces for cross-regional wheat mechanized harvesting, achieving cross-regional operation income of about 34 million yuan and net income of around 20 million yuan. It is reported that the city has had cross-regional wheat mechanized harvesting income exceeding 30 million yuan for five consecutive years.

"I first harvested more than 400 mu of wheat outside, then came back and harvested another 400 to 500 mu at home; cross-regional operations doubled the workload, and this year's gross income could reach 40,000 yuan." Huang Jingmin, a machine operator from Xiliujiazhuang Village, Damoujia Town, who was maintaining his machinery, told the reporter, "I bought this machine last year for more than 80,000 yuan, and I estimate that by next year I can recover the cost and even make a little profit!" It is understood that in recent years, many farmers in Gaomi City like Huang Jingmin have invested in wheat combine harvesters to get rich, and "cross-regional operations can expand the market and increase the workload" is an important reason they value this industry. Moreover, many farmers who bought machines earlier have already achieved success. For example, Liu Binye, a machine operator from Xijianggezhuang Village, Kanjia Town, bought a wheat combine harvester back in 1999, and not only did he make money early on himself, but he also led more than 10 nearby farmers onto this path.

Gaomi City was an early organizer of cross-regional wheat harvesting. Starting in 1996, the Municipal Agricultural Machinery Bureau began carrying out cross-regional agricultural machinery operations for the wheat harvest, and has had cross-regional wheat mechanized harvesting income exceeding 30 million yuan for five consecutive years, and has been awarded the title of "Advanced City in Cross-Regional Operations" many times. In this regard, Ou Qingbao, the deputy head in charge of the Municipal Agricultural Machinery Bureau, introduced: "In cross-regional wheat mechanized harvesting, we have already summarized and established a mature mechanism, so the results have consistently been good." The reporter further learned that around cross-regional wheat mechanized harvesting, the city has established a pairing assistance mechanism. Through repeatedly arranging dedicated personnel to conduct inspections elsewhere, it has established pairing assistance and cooperation relationships with Jiangsu, Anhui, Henan, Shaanxi and other provinces and 12 counties (cities) in western Shandong, gradually forming a group of relatively fixed operation areas, with a relatively fixed operation area of nearly 1 million mu; they have also established a cross-regional entity cultivation mechanism, using policy guidance, typical case promotion, and assistance in funding, technology and information on multiple fronts in normal times to actively cultivate various agricultural machinery service organizations and large agricultural machinery households. At present, the city has developed a total of 539 agricultural machinery service organizations, including 31 agricultural machinery professional cooperatives and 31 agricultural machinery associations; there are 18 large agricultural machinery households with total agricultural machinery value exceeding 1 million yuan and 1,856 large agricultural machinery households with more than 100,000 yuan, initially forming a market-oriented framework for cross-regional agricultural machinery operations with various agricultural machinery service organizations and agricultural machinery associations as the links and large agricultural machinery households as the backbone. In recent years, each year about 130 cross-regional operation service teams have been formed through agricultural machinery service organizations, driving more than 1,000 machines to go out for cross-regional operations, and the degree of scale has reached a certain level; an organization and service mechanism of careful preparation before the wheat harvest and strengthened service during the wheat harvest has also been established, which can comprehensively guarantee the smooth progress of cross-regional operations; in addition, friendly reciprocity is implemented with "pairing assistance and cooperation units," mutually providing each other with a relaxed, friendly and safe operating environment, promoting mutual benefit and win-win results for both cooperating parties, and jointly ensuring the smooth implementation of cross-regional wheat mechanized harvesting work.

At present, Gaomi City's cross-regional wheat mechanized harvesting mechanism has already become relatively mature, and operator profits are considerable. However, because the number of wheat combine harvesters nationwide has grown rapidly in recent years, the wheat mechanized harvesting market has shown a shrinking trend, and operators are also facing new tests. In this regard, Xiao Guangrong, leader of an intermediary service organization in Zhangxiaozhai Village, Damoujia Town, has deep personal experience. He said: "A few years ago, cross-regional operations during the summer harvest really played a big role. First, they could help other places rush-harvest wheat, and second, they could increase operators' income. But in the past two years there have been more wheat harvesters, and the market prospects are not looking too good." In response to this problem, the deputy head in charge of the Municipal Agricultural Machinery Bureau explained that in the next few years, to maintain the market for cross-regional wheat harvest operations, the key is still to give full play to the role of "prior agreement and pairing assistance"; the municipal agricultural machinery department is exploring how to graft the mechanism of cross-regional summer harvest operations onto cross-regional autumn harvest operations, and since the year before last, Gaomi City has already organized a certain number of machines to participate in autumn harvest operations in Zibo and other areas of the province, with good results. Next, while consolidating the results of cross-regional agricultural machinery operations in the summer harvest, the municipal agricultural machinery department will vigorously organize and carry out cross-regional agricultural machinery operations in the autumn harvest through methods such as publicity and mobilization, organizational driving, pairing contacts, and subsidized machinery.
