Bagged cultivation of organic cucumbers: high prices, strong sales, good returns

On August 3, the author saw in the organic vegetable greenhouse in Dongzhuguo Village, Lincheng County, Xingtai City, Hebei Province, that vegetable farmer Wei Yunxing had applied bagging technology to cucumber production. The cucumbers grown this way are straight and attractive, with uniform thickness. According to reports, bagged cucumbers can increase returns by more than 6,000 yuan per mu.

It is reported that cucumber fruits develop very quickly and can generally be harvested 7 to 10 days after flowering. Cucumbers are a continuously fruiting and continuously harvested vegetable, and during the peak fruiting period they must be harvested every day. In bagged cucumber cultivation, when the small cucumbers grow to 5 to 8 cm, a bag is placed over them, which can prevent pesticide spray from splashing onto the fruit. Applying this technology in cucumber production can directly prevent insect bites or pathogen infection; the temperature and humidity conditions inside the bag are relatively suitable for cucumber growth and development, and can also make cucumbers mature earlier.

Wei Yunxing did a calculation for the author: each kilogram of bagged cucumbers sells for 1 yuan more than ordinary cucumbers, and each mu can increase income by 6,000 yuan. It is reported that this technology is one of the main technologies promoted this year in fruit-type vegetable production in Xingtai City, Hebei Province. In addition to cucumbers, Xingtai City has also successfully applied this technology to zucchini and long eggplant production.
