Soybean planting along field edges in Ganluo County achieves success

On August 9, technicians from the Ganluo County Agriculture Bureau achieved success with soybean planting along field margins in three townships, increasing income by 230 yuan per 100 m of field edge (field ridge), opening up a new path for farmers to increase their income through planting.
Huang Qixue, a member of the sixth batch of academic leaders in Liangshan Prefecture, following the Ganluo County field-margin soybean planting technology research project, planted soybeans on the four sides of rice paddy ridges across 860 mu in Naiwu Village, Ar Township, Puchang Village, Puchang Town, and Qianjin Township, and planted 240 mu of soybeans on dry land in Dongmen Village, Haitang Town. Variety trials and cultivation trials were carried out. Field surveys from August 1 to 9, 2012 showed an income increase of more than 230 yuan per 100 m of field edge (field ridge). The successful research of this project technology powerfully promotes the utilization of idle marginal cultivated land and opens up a new path for villagers to increase their income.
In Naiwu Village, Ar Township, villager Ergu excitedly introduced the soybean production situation and recent harvest situation to technicians from the county Agriculture Bureau. The villager said, "Planting soybeans increases income, and it can also protect the field ridges and fertilize the land. We did not know before that soybeans could be planted on field ridges. The technicians taught us to do this this year, and in the future even without guidance, we will all know how to plant them." Huang Qixue, a member of the sixth batch of academic leaders in Liangshan Prefecture, introduced: "The implementation of the field-margin soybean planting technology research project has brought benefits to farmers, increasing income, protecting field ridges, and fertilizing the land. It is a great thing that achieves several results at once. Through this year's demonstration, once farmers see the results, it will be fully promoted in the future."
