Hainan black pigs: one piece of information draws hundreds of farmers to raise pigs

The household standardized pig-farming model is a major innovation different from the large-scale pig-farming model. The reporter recently learned from the agriculture and commerce departments of Haikou that after the Haikou Wuyue Tengfei Agricultural Products Cooperative issued the information that “household standardized black pig farming brings an additional 50 yuan per pig at the purchase price,” more than one hundred farming households in Haikou and neighboring cities and counties have now joined the cooperative. A breeding pig company, a husbandry company, an Agricultural Science and Technology 110 service station, and the Hainan household standardized pig-farming model promotion project have also joined the cooperative to jointly build the Hainan black pig brand.

The cooperative is linked to industrialized development

It is understood that as of the first half of this year, 6,804 farmers' professional cooperatives had been registered and established in Hainan, with 188,000 members, accounting for 18.8% of Hainan's farming households, effectively driving the development of the local rural economy. At the same time, however, many farmers' cooperatives in Hainan are not actually operating normally. Luo Yongsong, head of the Haikou Wuyue Tengfei Agricultural Products Cooperative, believes that to truly develop agriculture, a company or enterprise must be the main body, connecting farmers and bases, directly building a sales platform, merging the farmers' cooperative with the idea of agricultural industrialized development, linking all relevant links together, forming a one-stop service for agricultural industrialization, and giving play to the advantages of the market economy.

After in-depth research, Luo Yongsong organized farmers in Haikou and neighboring cities and counties, breeding and seedling bases, feed manufacturers, the Agriculture 110 prevention center, and smaller farmers' cooperatives below it to jointly form an agricultural products professional cooperative integrating agricultural industrialization, and to carry out household standardized black pig farming. The Haikou Wuyue Tengfei Agricultural Products Cooperative leads the sales market in Haikou, and starting from seedling breeding, monitors every link in a one-stop manner to ensure food safety and the taste and quality of the meat. The cooperative signs buyback agreements with farmers, stipulating that on the basis of the market price, 2 jiao is added per jin, meaning each pig can increase income by 50 yuan. If a farming household produces 500 pigs for slaughter in a year, it is expected to increase income by 25,000 yuan.

A quality traceability system ensures safety

Luo Yongsong analyzed the cooperative's operating model, namely that the cooperative provides unified black pig seedling breeding, provides unified professional black pig feed and nutritional formulas, provides a professional standardized feeding model, and provides the scientific prevention methods of Agriculture 110. The cooperative's black pig farming, from birth to slaughter, is completely centered on biological and ecological feed, starting from the source, with unified standards for seedlings, feed, vaccines, veterinary drugs, technology, and so on, so that consumers no longer worry about adverse consequences caused by eating pork. They also created an ID for each pig starting from the piglet stage, and all have records of the specific feeding process, so that if a problem is found, it can be traced back to the specific responsible person.

At present, Hainan black pork has long been famous in major cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou, with prices more than 2 times those in Hainan, and demand exceeds supply. According to the introduction, the cooperative is currently seeking support from municipal commerce, agriculture, and other departments, and plans to set up sales stalls or special counters in more than 40 farmers' markets and supermarkets in Haikou in the near future, and to roll them out comprehensively next year.
