Why is true wild hare farming still not profitable today?
Not long ago, while interviewing, a reporter from CCTV's Daily Nongjing encountered many people who mistook Belgian rabbits for wild hares, and of course there were also many who deliberately passed off other rabbits as wild hares ...... How profitable is pure wild hare farming?
At a rabbit breeding base in Jinhua, Zhejiang, experiments related to wild hare farming began back in 2007, and it has now been 3 years. The CCTV reporter witnessed with his own eyes at the farm that after the staff took a wild hare out of its cage, in less than 5 minutes, the hare had already rammed the iron bars countless times, and the iron bars were covered with the blood marks left by its impacts. Everyone knows that an ordinary domestic rabbit, even outdoors, no matter how hard you push it, will not flee. With this comparison, we can conclude that the hare at this farm that charges recklessly and bloodies its head should indeed be a true pure wild hare.
Song Yigen, head of the Jinhua Wild Hare Farming Professional Cooperative in Zhejiang, explained that pure wild hare farming is definitely not profitable now. Based on what has been learned over these years, for pure wild hare meat farming, if you really want to breed and sell, anything under 100 yuan per jin means running at a loss. This farm has been raising them for several years, and the captured pure wild hares have also successfully bred the next generation, so why is there no profit? It is understood that this is mainly because the cost of raising wild hares is very high.
The first reason for the high cost is the low reproduction rate. An ordinary wild hare gives birth to 2-3 at a time, and in rare cases 1 or 4 at a time, but most often 2-3, which is half as many as domestic rabbits. Second, to maintain the wildness of these wild hares, they must be given a large enough space for free-range raising. In that case, the surrounding walls must be more than two meters high, and the ground must also be hardened to prevent them from burrowing and escaping. In addition, it is also necessary to prevent male wild hares from fighting together and biting each other, and all of this increases the cost of wild hare farming. At the same time, the mortality rate of wild hares is high. Over the past three years, this farm has purchased several thousand live wild hares in total, spending more than 200,000 yuan on buying rabbits alone. Today, 95% of the wild hares have died, and only a few small wild hares have been bred. This also means that the cost of the pure wild hares still alive here is far more than 100 yuan per jin.
