The poultry farming industry continues to recover, with farmers seeing both profits and losses

Our newspaper, November 8 (Reporter Wu Jiangtao, Correspondent Chao Yuhai) - To gain a deeper understanding of the current production recovery situation of the poultry farming industry in Yantai, the Yantai Survey Team of the National Bureau of Statistics recently selected 5 poultry farmers across the city for a survey. The survey found that prices for most poultry products are continuing to recover, and poultry farmers are experiencing both profits and losses.

Broiler chickens are one of the products more heavily affected by avian influenza. Now broiler prices are gradually picking up. The current ex-farm price for broilers is 8.6-8.8 yuan per kg, slightly higher than the cost price of 8.3-8.4 yuan per kg, and broiler farmers are gradually turning losses into profits.

Layer hen farming, however, has been hovering around the break-even line. The survey shows that the current ex-farm price for eggs in Yantai is 7.4-7.80 yuan per kg, roughly on par with the cost price of 7.4-7.60 yuan per kg.

By comparison, chick breeders are still suffering serious losses. During the avian influenza period, the price of chicks was as low as only 0.6-0.7 yuan per chick. As the avian influenza epidemic gradually subsides, the current price of chicks has rebounded to 1.9-2.10 yuan per chick, but compared with the current cost of 2.3-2.5 yuan per chick, breeder chicken farmers still cannot make ends meet.
