Vegetable greenhouses help farmers in Hejing County get rich
(Correspondent Chen Peipei) Celery, spinach, leaf lettuce and garland chrysanthemum are growing vigorously, a lush green stretch. This was the scene the author saw on December 12 in the vegetable greenhouse of Jiang Chunling, a greenhouse grower in Barun Halmodun Town, Hejing County.
Jiang Chunling told the author that this greenhouse has been cultivated since 2010, and she now has 10 greenhouses in total. The government also gave her a subsidy of 100,000 yuan. More than half of the green leafy vegetables now grown have been sold, and afterward she planted green beans, tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers and so on. At present, these 10 greenhouses have brought her an income of 100,000 yuan.
In recent years, Barun Halmodun Town has actively promoted pollution-free greenhouse vegetable cultivation techniques, and in 2005 successfully applied for the title of pollution-free agricultural product base from the Ministry of Agriculture of China. This year, the whole town built more than 50 new-type solar greenhouses. Local finance departments and financial enterprises provide discounted loans to specialized growers, strongly supporting farmers in growing greenhouse vegetables. Under the government's active encouragement, the public's enthusiasm for building greenhouses and growing vegetables has reached an unprecedented high, and the scale has continued to expand. Pollution-free greenhouse vegetables have become a leading industry for farmers in Barun Halmodun Town to increase income, get rich and move toward a moderately prosperous life. Up to now, Barun Halmodun Town has cumulatively built a pollution-free greenhouse vegetable base of 4,300 mu, achieving an output value of 172 million yuan. The vegetable varieties grown have expanded to more than 20. In addition to the traditional Chinese chives, peppers, eggplants and tomatoes, famous and high-quality melons and vegetables such as greenhouse nectarines, strawberries and early-maturing watermelons have also been promoted one after another, and a reverse-season vegetable cultivation model focused mainly on early spring and delayed autumn has gradually taken shape, significantly raising the scientific and technological content of greenhouse vegetables. At present, in addition to supplying the local market, the town's greenhouse vegetables are also sold in large quantities to Korla City, Urumqi City and other places, broadening the path for farmers to increase income and get rich in winter.
