Che Shi, a deputy to the Shandong Provincial People's Congress: Salmon farming becomes a revolutionary breakthrough

Salmon farming becomes a revolutionary breakthrough

Yesterday, the Yantai delegation attending the third session of the 12th Shandong Provincial People's Congress continued discussing the provincial government work report. At the discussion site, transformation and restructuring became a hot topic among the deputies

, Che Shi, provincial people's congress deputy and chairman of Shandong Oriental Ocean Sci-Tech Co., Ltd., said that transformation and restructuring cannot be separated from innovation-driven development, and innovation is even more inseparable from industry-university-research cooperation. “From the perspective of enterprise operation practice, industry-university-research cooperation is the best way to accelerate the industrialization of scientific research achievements.” Che Shi said.
Nowadays, the topic of transformation and restructuring cannot be avoided or escaped, and for enterprises, transformation and restructuring is especially urgent. “Transform and restructure quickly, and an enterprise can be in a favorable position in competition. Transform and restructure slowly, and it will very likely be eliminated by the market in a new round of competition.” Che Shi said. As far as enterprises are concerned, where lies the direction of transformation and restructuring? Che Shi believes that technological innovation is the foundation of product upgrading, and the integration of industry, universities and research is a shortcut to the industrialization of scientific research achievements. Only by seeking breakthroughs in technological innovation can enterprises achieve transformation and restructuring. Without science and technology as the guide, transformed products will quickly be eliminated by the market.

Oriental Ocean feels the changes brought to enterprises by the integration of industry, universities and research most deeply. In 2010, Oriental Ocean cooperated with the Institute of Oceanology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and introduced 200,000 salmon fry from Norway. Experts and technical personnel began in-depth research on the closed recirculating aquaculture system that had just emerged in the world aquaculture sector. After a long period of exploration, the important equipment was designed by the technical team itself and customized from manufacturers, eventually forming today's unique large-scale closed recirculating aquaculture system in the world. “This project won the first prize of the Shandong Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award in 2013, and next year we plan to apply for a national science and technology award.” Che Shi said that following the successful farming of turbot, the successful farming of salmon became a revolutionary breakthrough in China's fishery aquaculture sector.

In fact, salmon imported from Norway had been found multiple times to contain parasites, while salmon farmed locally in Yantai, because they live in closed recirculating groundwater, had a parasite detection rate of zero all along. At the same time, according to testing by authoritative national departments, the content of nutrients such as DHA and EPA in the flesh of locally farmed salmon in Yantai was even 30% higher than that of imported products of the same kind. “Our locally farmed salmon has already gained a firm foothold in supermarkets in Yantai and Qingdao.” Che Shi said.
