Lenovo Agriculture Shows E-commerce Ambitions, Invests in New Company to Push Mobile
January 28 news: An insider in agricultural e-commerce told Ebrun that Lenovo, after Joyvio Group, has made another major move in agricultural e-commerce by investing in and establishing a new company, “Yunnong Wuyu,” to build a platform-level agricultural product e-commerce project. In response, Ebrun contacted Yunnong Wuyu CEO Guo Hongchi, who said that Yunnong Wuyu is a new company jointly invested in and established by Lenovo Joyvio and himself personally, and that in the future it will integrate Joyvio's e-commerce business and Xijie Network's technical systems, striving to build a quality-and-safety agricultural product sales cloud platform.
It is understood that Guo Hongchi was originally the founder and CEO of Xijie Network. Xijie Network has spent two years transforming from a sporting goods B2C platform into a system supplier, and its strength lies in enabling suppliers and platforms to achieve seamless integration based on mobile-end systems. Recently, Guo Hongchi tried operating the rice brand “Yimi Yijia” on WeChat, selling rice from Dajiagui Village, Longfengshan Township, Wuchang City, Heilongjiang Province directly from farmers to WeChat followers, creating the miracle of completing 90000 jin of rice in 10 hours.
One important reason Lenovo Joyvio was willing to jointly invest with Guo Hongchi to establish the new company this time is that the circulation links for agricultural products are very complex, and strong technical platform support is the core weapon for connecting places of origin with consumers, while Xijie Network has accumulated a deep technical foundation in this area in recent years. “In the process of operating Yimi Yijia, I deeply understood the role of technical systems in reengineering the supply chain,” Guo Hongchi admitted.
It is disclosed that Yunnong Wuyu adopts an independent operation model, building a platform to connect the best farmers in places of origin, agricultural products and consumers. Lenovo Joyvio serves as an investor in Yunnong Wuyu and one of its suppliers, while his previous startup, Xijie Network, has been transformed into its subsidiary. “Xijie Network, Lenovo Joyvio's e-commerce business, and the Joyvio Group team responsible for brand supply and the traceability system have been merged into Yunnong Wuyu. In the initial stage, Joyvio brands and products are the new company's basic business and main support.”
Unlike the former Joyvio e-commerce, Yunnong Wuyu will select the highest-quality agricultural products from all channels, not limited to Joyvio's single channel. Moreover, going forward it will expand from fruit to other agricultural product categories, and will also consider including imported packaged foods. “In addition to omnichannel procurement of high-quality products, Yunnong Wuyu will also sell through omnichannel. In 2015, we hope to initially complete the construction of the official website platform and establish advantageous products in certain categories,” Guo Hongchi said.”
It is understood that the Yunnong Wuyu team currently has more than 100 people in total, including more than 50 engineers from Xijie Network. Guo Hongchi disclosed that the future development focus of Yunnong Wuyu will be on the mobile end, and the internetization of agricultural products will enter a period of high-speed development. “The rapid dissemination characteristics of the mobile internet and the way trust is transmitted will drive the transparency and traceability process of agricultural product production and circulation, and will directly drive e-commerce sales products to stage a transformation. High-quality goods will spread rapidly, while low-quality products will die as soon as they appear.”
Based on this, Guo Hongchi also judged to Ebrun that agricultural products will be another hugely rising category for e-commerce after books, digital products and clothing, and the mobile internet will promote the integration of online and offline agricultural products to create a new huge market. “After three to five years, e-commerce sales methods will undergo a transformation, and agricultural products will develop at scale in this process.”
