The joy of a bountiful harvest

In recent years, the people of Songpingshao Village, Liziyuan Village Committee, Pingchuan Town, Binchuan County, Yunnan, have lived off the mountains. While consolidating the "small apple" industry, they have actively developed understory farming, wild mushroom gathering, ham curing and sales, and other industries, forming a new model of increasing income and achieving prosperity by walking on several legs at once, and expanding the channels for mountain people to increase their income and prosper.

Huan Xuebin's family in Songpingshao Village owns nearly 70 mu of mountain forest. In recent years his family has planted more than 20 mu of apples, and the income has been quite good. While planting apples, old Huan noticed that in recent years the demand for ecological native chickens has been fairly large, so he set his sights on his apple orchard. He told the reporter: My family has been planting walnuts and apples in Songpingshao since the older generation. Nowadays walnuts and apples are very good for human health. But the key is that the ground under the fruit trees is empty, so I thought I would raise a few of each breed of chicken there, develop a little of each, and in the end the chicken meat is very good, because they usually eat apples, insects and green grass. Through experimentation, old Huan's family now raises ecological native chickens under the apple trees, and can market several hundred ecological native chickens each year; this one item alone can increase old Huang's family income by tens of thousands of yuan.

It is currently the peak season for wild mushroom sales, and nearby people are used to bringing the wild mushrooms they collect to trade near the Songpingshao Reservoir, and a small market has formed here. Huan Xuebin's son Huan Cheng and several other young people noticed that although the number of people coming to trade kept increasing, there were no restaurants nearby, so it was inconvenient for the people coming to trade to eat. So the group decided to grill and boil locally produced black goats at the Songpingshao Reservoir, which not only solved the problem of meals for the trading people, but also won the liking of passersby.

At present, many people in Songpingshao, like Huan Xuebin's family, while consolidating the "small apple" industry, have formed a new model of diversified operations including understory planting and farming, wild mushroom gathering and processing, ham curing and sales, and farmhouse restaurants, expanding the channels for increasing income and achieving prosperity. It is understood that in Songpingshao Village alone, the expansion of these channels for increasing income and achieving prosperity can increase the income of the whole village's people by more than 200,000 yuan.
