"Wife, give the pigeons some more feed. I'm going to the 149th Regiment to deliver milk." Before his wife could answer, Hu Wanchao had already driven his vehicle out the yard gate.

Hu Wanchao, 60 this year, is a worker of the 8th Company of the 150th Regiment under the 8th Division of the Corps. His wife, Tang Suping, is 57 this year. Besides contracting 110 mu of land, the elderly couple also raise 11 dairy cows and more than 260 breeding pigeons. Last year the family's net income was nearly 300,000 yuan. In Old Hu's words, these good returns all came from diversified farming and good faith.

In 1991, Old Hu's family of four came from Sichuan to the 8th Company of the 150th Regiment under the 8th Division of the Corps. At that time they had little to do and lived by doing odd jobs for others all day long. The family scraped by. Later, with the help of the company officials, his family contracted 110 mu of land. Through the careful guidance of the company officials and the hard work of the whole family, life got better year by year. His eldest daughter, after graduating from ** University, stayed on to teach there, and his son, after graduating from Chongqing University of Technology, works in Tacheng. It can be said that both children have found very good jobs, and the elderly couple ought to be able to enjoy a comfortable life at home. But the hardworking and down-to-earth character of Sichuan people makes it hard for them to stay idle. In 2007, Old Hu bought 4 dairy cows and gradually expanded to the current 11. In feeding the dairy cows, Old Hu insists on using silage mixed with cornmeal for fermentation, and in summer he adds some green fodder as well. So for all these years, Old Hu's milk has always been exclusively sold by the 149th Regiment store, with daily sales kept at more than 100 kg, and the price is also 0.5 yuan higher than the market. Old Hu says: People live by good faith. I cannot, just to earn a little money, feed the cows any additives and do something against my conscience.

Last year, Old Hu bought 260 Silver King meat breeding pigeons from elsewhere, opening up another channel to wealth. Because it was his first time raising pigeons, Old Hu had no experience, so he often went to the company's farm library to borrow books on pigeon raising. Now Old Hu can sell more than 100 squabs a month, with a monthly income of nearly 3,000 yuan. At the beginning of this year, Old Hu joined the company's Tianxiang Tuoling Pigeon Raising Professional Cooperative. With unified technical guidance, a unified management model and unified sales channels, Old Hu is no longer fighting alone. Now, Hu Wanchao's family is running faster and faster on the road to prosperity.
