Song Jian: Building Wealth Through Dairy and Beef Cattle Farming

In the eastern area of the 29th Regiment of the Second Division of the **Production and Construction Corps, whenever people mention Song Jian from the First Company and his hard-fought entrepreneurial journey in dairy cattle farming, they all invariably give a thumbs-up, holding this genuine regiment farm worker in high regard.

Many years ago, Song Jian, like many company workers, relied mainly on farming, leaving early and returning late, toiling away every day. He deeply realized that for an ordinary worker, getting rich by relying on simple farming methods was simply too difficult. But besides farming, what other good methods could there be to lift himself out of poverty and achieve prosperity?

Just as Song Jian was painstakingly searching foran entrepreneurial project, news spread through the company that the First Company Party branch was encouraging workers to vigorously develop the breeding industry. After repeated consideration and investigation from multiple sources, starting in early 2006, with strong support from the regimental Party committee and the company Party branch, Song Jian set his sights on the beef and dairy cattle farming industry. At first, he used only personal funds to buy 4 cattle as a small-scale individual operation, using a small investment to observe the risks and returns of this industry. What surprised Song Jian was that by the end of that year, he had already recouped his costs. This initial success gave him a return on his first attempt, which further strengthened Song Jian's confidence in developing his dairy cattle farming business. Thereafter, his farming scale gradually grew, and he built a small family ranch, keeping at it for 8 years.

In June 2015, with strong support from the regimental Party committee and the company Party branch, Song Jian built 2 standard breeding facilities of over 500 sq m each. Now his family has 78 head of dairy and beef cattle.

"In the future, I want to continue expanding the scale and, through dairy cattle farming, help more workers across the regiment realize their dream of building up their families and starting businesses to get rich," said Song Jian, a worker of the First Company of the 29th Regiment.

Today, Song Jian has become a major dairy cattle farmer in the 29th Regiment, and under his leadership, the enthusiasm of First Company workers for dairy cattle farming has soared to unprecedented levels. Currently, the company's total dairy cattle herd has reached over 120 head.

In less than a year, Song Jian achieved considerable economic returns from dairy cattle farming. At present, Song Jian's dairy cattle herd has grown from just a few head initially to 78 head now. For each beef cattle raised, he can achieve a net income of 6,000 yuan per year. As the economic benefits become increasingly prominent, Song Jian's enthusiasm for farming has greatly increased, and his farming scale continues to expand. Dairy and beef cattle farming is becoming an effective path for Song Jian to increase his income and achieve prosperity.
