Wang Xiaoming: Introducing "Shalite" Bears "Wealth Fruits"

Wang Xiaoming, a farmer from Daxin Village in Mingnan Subdistrict, sought out a path to wealth by producing fruit that sells well on the market, and successfully introduced "Shalite" late-autumn yellow pear cultivation technology with success.
The "Shalite" late-autumn yellow pear is a new pear variety developed and promoted by Henan Shangchanghe Fruit Industry Co., Ltd. Its fruit displays the unique qualities of being large, brightly colored, thin-skinned, white-fleshed, small-cored, grit-free, and offering multiple flavors in a single pear. This variety can bloom and bear fruit in the very year it is planted. With proper management, a two-year-old tree can yield 500-1500 kg per mu, and even at a market price of 5-8 yuan per kg, it still sells faster than it can be supplied. Each fruit generally weighs 500-800 grams, with large fruits reaching 1800-2000 grams. This variety stores well and tolerates low temperatures. After harvesting, ripe fruits can be stored naturally at room temperature for 6-8 months, making it suitable for off-season sales and long-distance transport.
Wang Xiaoming is just over 30 this year. As a teenager, he went to Guangdong and Zhejiang to work. Sharp-minded and fond of thinking things through, he learned through market research and online information that developing "Shalite" late-autumn yellow pears would bring considerable economic returns. In March 2013, he introduced and planted over 7 mu on his own land for a trial, and began seeing returns the following year. The yield was 550 kg per mu, with a total output of 4000 kg and an income of 42000 yuan.
On October 12, this writer visited Wang Xiaoming's orchard. Although the fruit had not yet reached maturity, the entire orchard was a sea of gold, with trees less than two meters tall bent low under the weight of their fruit. This reporter made a rough count: each tree bore around 60 fruits, the largest with a diameter of 16 cm and weighing about 1800 grams. It is estimated that the yield will be 1400 kg per mu, with a total output of 9800 kg from the 7 mu and an income of more than 100000 yuan.
Building on his successful cultivation, Henan Shangchanghe Company appointed Wang Xiaoming as technical director, responsible for developing late-autumn yellow pear cultivation and technical management in the Mingguang area. Last year, with strong support from the local government, Wang Xiaoming developed late-autumn yellow pear planting bases of 600 mu in Mingnan, Qiaotou and other townships through land transfers.
Regarding sales, Wang Xiaoming told us: "For this fruit, the company implements unified packaging, unified buyback, and unified sales. All the large fruits are exported, generally sold to the European market, while the small fruits are sorted out and processed by the company itself into fruit wine and other beverages."
The pear harvest season is generally in July and August, while late-autumn yellow pears generally only begin to be harvested at the end of October, missing the peak fruit sales period and seizing a business opportunity. The price is naturally higher than other varieties, and with contract planting, there is no worry about finding a market. Looking at the nearly ripe fruit, Wang Xiaoming said confidently: "Next, I plan to transfer another 400 mu of land, striving to expand the planting area to 1000 mu, strengthen scientific management, and better improve our techniques, so that our fruit grows better and bigger, and drive more farming households to develop this sweet industry."
